Thank you for reply. BUT if I can say 1 thing,. ( AGAIN) it was prven already a few years agothart PCF IS MA contolled/owned. proof http://www.entropiaplanets.com/thre...ses-to-acknowledge-cooperation-with-pcf.6974/ fact is = pcf now = owned by MA. thus that makes any1 working for them voluntary or not evenif they are volunteer mods an employee PCF= MA. good evidence for thus. Brave you t post here (IF it is real darkonina..:) if is real PCF/MA mod then say much respect to him for that. Taking BIG risk
I'm not averse to change, really. I just have a preference for over-the-shoulder camera, regardless of what game I play. If the option to use that would be removed, it'd be a dealbreaker for me, to be honest. I don't know any MMOs where that kind of a camera mode would not be available.
I'm not sure you fully understand what an employee is ;) If someone volunteers (or is paid with a few beers for his/her time), that does not make someone an employee. If I hire someone for my company to do a specific job, but have no contract with that person (other than for the specific task, but I am not putting them on my payroll), that makes that person a free-lancer or contractor. I'm willing to accept Darkaruki does his moderator job free of charge, or perhaps even gets some in-game ammo for his trouble. If I got his message right, he also covered his own flight to Sweden to attend this workshop (I wouldn't, and I live a stone's throw away from Gothenborg, lol). Maybe he's just an enthusiastic participant? I also don't see him taking any risks. The Interwebs is a free environment. What risk is he taking by posting here, exactly? I'm sure that he won't discuss anything covered by the NDA, and I highly doubt he'd have signed anything that states MA gets to sacrifice his testicles if he ends up posting on ep. (Seriously, do not sign such papers if they'd present them to you!).
I'm aware that PCF is owned by MA, that's not really a secret, although it is not moderated or, to my knowledge, administrated by MA, just in connection with MA as a community forum which they acquired. My name is Darkaruki. I don't understand what risk you're referring to, I'm just a community member and volunteer moderator. On that note, I think you're going to want to look up the definition of "Employee" at some point.
First off thanks for your replies - I appreciate it. I kinda feel sorry for you guys actually. OK you didn't have to reveal that you went but I get that you are likely becomming the fall guys for MA creating something that (once again) no one asked for. You are probably getting a lot of stick that really should be aimed at the man behind the curtain (MA). in the discussion we had prior to getting our hands on the Alpha, talked about how we weren't sure why this was needed, how we didn't really want these changes, Good work! Pleased to know you all got straight to the point with them on that one. I can imagine 10 people in a room all going "ok first of all,... before we do anything else... - WHY THE HECK?" (oh if they ever met me... I would be so frank) I covered this, the camera style I believe you're describing was not in the Alpha and, as I mentioned, I believe will be allowed as an alternate camera choice when outside of combat mode. (My impression) Not exactly although I note you mentioned it wasn't there. That said, I'm not encouraged when MA say "we'll put it back" or even "we'll consider putting it back". They also said they were making space courier missions. This is definitely available in the "Avatar Viewing" type camera, and might be available elsewhere but I would be surprised if it was enabled in the combat mode, nor would you want it to be. This "combat mode".... I have to admit I'm not sure I like the sound of that one bit!... sounds awfully restrictive in a sandbox MMO to have a "camera mode" (control mode whatever it is) that is specifically to do with combat. I'd like to ask, "am I still able to shoot a mob that attacks me if I am NOT in 'combat mode'?" but I get that, at time of your visit, they'd scrapped the normal "3rd person - no restrictions" camera we are used to so you won't be able to answer I guess? I'd hate to see a situation where I'm just walking around exploring (in the old 3rd person mode) and something randomly attacked me and I wouldn't be able to do anything unless I switched into some sorta weird "combat mode". I'm sure you understand that when you say "we found merit once we got used to it", it REALLY doesn't sound promising at all. That said, no one would want you to lie, so I appreciate your honesty... I just don't like what I hear ;) My concern about this "avatar viewing" camera... it sounds a lot like the sort of camera you have during avatar creation. i.e. a camera for just looking at your avatar up close - would I be right in thinking you can't move in that camera mode too? Not really what anyone wants or needs. I'd be happy to keep a no restrictions 3rd person view where I can choose where to put the camera.
