MMA FIGHT PROMOTER STARTS INVESTMENT BUSINESS IN VIRTUAL UNIVERSE
Entropia Holdings Plans To Obtain $100,000 Worth Of Virtual Currency For Land Development

July 22nd, 2008 30 year old Mixed Martial Arts promoter and founder of the MMA Big Show based out of Cincinnati, OH Jason Appleton, prepares his final touches on a business plan that is expected to land his company Entropia Holdings over $100,000 worth of Virtual Currency from investors.

Entropia Universe being a massively multiplayer virtual universe where virtual currency within the game can be transferred into real world currency at anytime by it’s founding company MindArk is preparing to undergo a massive graphics overhaul by means of the amazingly impressive CryEngine. With this upgrade are planned some additions to the “VU” that are assumed by many to be new Land Areas and potentially a new planet to colonize. Land Areas within the Entropia Universe offer citizens the ability to own land within the VU which can generate recurring real world profits for it’s owner. Many of these Land Areas are so valuable in fact that not many citizens can afford to purchase them and those that can are, and doing very well for themselves.

“Entropia Holdings is a collective investment fund put in place to help almost anyone to achieve even partial ownership of the booming virtual real estate opportunities within the Entropia Universe.” Explains founder Jason Appleton. “With Entropia Holdings, newcomers to the Universe can buy into a group of experienced citizens within the community who work together to ensure maximum profit potential with the investment funds received.”

Already accumulating eager investors waiting for the August 1st launch date of the fund, Entropia Holdings is in the process of establishing it’s elected Board Of Directors and finalizing the website and business plan which can be found at EntropiaHoldings.com

The line between Virtual and Real is getting much smaller as Entropia Holdings has plans on filing an LLC (Limited Liability Company) status with real world shares of stock to be issued to it’s investors once specific investment milestones have been met.

“My goal for Entropia Holdings over the long term of it’s development is for it to become a right of passage for newcomers to the Entropia Universe in that they know right from the start they can own a piece of something they will someday use themselves and it will generate profits for them down the road.” Says Appleton.

  5. Well there is reson for sceptisism here :protest:
If I read that EF thread right he want 100 ppl to invest 1000 peds each
Invest the 100k in a land area
He estimate to have a turnover of 6k a month (cant say if thats realistic, but it sounds high)

Anyway lets pretend (neglecting maintenance costs för a LA) 6k is the profit for the LA
That would give 100 ppl 60 peds each every month.
That itself builds a ROI plan that is almost 17 months long, thats a loooong of time in EU

He claims not to know the game but business!
I'd say its the other way around and he is a noob in the game

  6. It's my two cents worth - here we go...

There are so many warning signs in this that I would personally recommend to all of our membership to steer clear.
The mixing of RL and VL business cannot work without a direct agreement with MA. There is no ownership in Entropia; MA retain all rights and your rights are as virtual as the property itself.
This is proven by the long drawn out process of the banking system, the licenses required and the level of investment that was asked for by MA. Those contracts will cement the lines between virtual and real assets and liabilities.

There is no such agreement here, only a fledgling idea in the mind of one man, and a prospective and tenuous relationship with a limited company he has set up. Who are the 'board of directors' likely to be? What is to stop them paying all assets to themselves as bonuses, then folding the business leaving investors high and dry? Nothing is the answer, and nothing is what your 'investment' will most likely return.

If you want to invest in virtual property, then do so. Use the existing agreement between yourself as the player, and MA as the gamemaster. Work within the boundaries of your budget, and don't aspire to owning a land area, a hangar or such things.
Do what real entrepaneurs do; find a niche, exploit a market trend, work hard and trust only yourself and the trustworthy. Avoid the scams and bad business that goes around.
In my RL experience those that 'know business' go about it quietly and smoothly. Those that make a lot of noise and promise the earth generally can be found on the scrap heap shortly after.

    :twocents:

As I say, this is entirely my own opinion; I would quite happily be proven wrong and would salute this venture should it be successful.

  8. I agree totally with phunksta here. It is exactly the point that this Entropia Holdings will never actually own any LA unless there is an actual agreement with MA. I hope this is not going OTT, but this is 1001% a total scam, and in many ways is almost childish the way the whole proposition is put forward.

  9. Oops so I did! *DELETES*

and Nexus, I stopped short of labelling it a scam, but there is of course still the possibility that it is. Have a good read of the thread on EF - to be fair to the guy he seems to be working through his concept quite diligently and responding to the community.
I would still regard it as an unsafe investment, but the way the world economy is at the moment are there any safe ones?

that's six cents now - I'll shut up

  10. :ziplip:Ok - maybe that was OTT. Me guilty. However, he says he earns $10,000 - $40,000 a month, so why does he need investors? Also, nothing in EU can officially be collectively owned; not an appartment, not a hanger, not a LA, as officially only one person can have his or her name on the title deed.

There are two sepperate things here. The first is the envisaged profit gained from hunting and mining taxes (the land won't earn anything by itself) on the land he intends to buy via ppl's 1000-PED investment x 100. The second is the possible selling of the land in the future to other participants for a profit. I can see how the second part; selling the land, could just be feasible, but only if the first part works.

Also, isn't it true (this is what I've heard anyway), that you can only buy land areas as and when MA puts them up for sale. The only other way you can get land is when land-grabs are on, but then it hasn't of course been purchased ...

  13. I have to admit I am not convinced this will work. Not sure about one person being the sole owner of an LA, don't know much about it but when there is a landgrab and a soc. wins an area is that land owned by the soc. or a nominated individual?

  14. I'm not 100% sure on that either, where acquiring land through a land grab is concerned - maybe the entire soc concerned owns it? But I'm sure that if LA's are purchased outside of a landgrab, then only one person can own the title-deed, just as for an appartment, or hanger, or any estate item.

  15. It might be that one individual is chosen to make changes to the settings and such in the LA, but I am quite sure that all players of the winning soc gets a share of the tax incomes.

  16. Greetings folks,
I figured I would let a lot of the concerned post as such before responding.

I appreciate the points made so far so here comes some rebuttals if I may.

#1. This is in no way a scam of any sort. If this were a form of scam I assure you all that I wouldn't be putting my RL identity out there for the world to see. Last thin I want is a 100 pissed off investors from the internet knowing where I live, who I am and where I feed my babies. I'm not some 21 year old kid who is trying to scam a bunch of people while hiding in the shadows.

#2. I would be handling the Land Areas, their personal development and such. It's what I would do in the world of Entropia as my "game time" so to speak.

#3. Not a penny of the investment funds will be touched prior to achieving our initial investment goal enabling the purchase of our first land area. If our goal isn't met within the specified time frame, then those who wish to stay and extend the time may do so, those who want out will be given a refund of their investment less 2% which is below standard for such a venture.

#4. As for obtaining property from MA etc, yes, I am aware of this. Attempts will be made at first to acquire a profitable land area from a holder wishing to get out of the game or free him/herself from such responsibility etc. If that effort fails, I will be following up with MA to make further arrangements. If you think they would turn down $30,000 to $100,000 plus the attention this venture will get in the press to drive more people to their Universe, I think you are mistaken. :)

I am always open to answering any questions any of you may have. I also just did an interview with Dion Red for his Entropia Radio show which should go up in a week or two. It was a lot of fun and I think this will enable folks to get an idea as to who I am a bit more than discussion forum texts.

Hi there!I am glad you appreciate those qualities. Are you free?
You don't say.How do you assume this statement holds true for me?Is this really the last one?I am surprised to hear that you are not some 21 year old kid who is trying to scam a bunch of people while hiding in the shadows.
Are we still talking about not some 21 year old kid who is trying to scam a bunch of people while hiding in the shadows?
And the disadvantage of that is?Really. what he or she would do in the world of Entropia as his or her game time so to speak is?Oh, you are a poet.
Do you wish there were any?So if not those who wish to stay and extend the time may do so those who want out will be given a refund of their investment less 2% which is standard for such a venture is not met, then not our goal met the specified time frame.Quite honestly, I wouldn't worry myself about that.
Not many people express themselves that way.
Attempts will be made to acquire a profitable land area from a holder wishing to get out of the game I'm not sure if it could. What makes you think I would think they?Quite honestly, I wouldn't worry myself about that.
Where? I have never heard of an interview with Dion Red for his Entropia Radio show which should go up in a week or two. Why do you like it so much? What does "this" refer to?

  18. Mind Ark does not, and will not, directly sell anything in-world, or in other words; one cannot directly purchase anything that exists in-world from Mind Ark behind-the-scenes.

How I know this, I will not say. There are two types of scams. The first type is a dishonest one pure and simple from the off. The second type is an honest one, that is, the person or persons concerned, truly believes that a venture will work, only it fails due to a miscalculation or two, but as far as investors are concerned, it turns out to be a a scam from their point of view.

I have to agree with Phunksta both before the rebuttal and after. As for me, I'll sit idly in the sidelines and see how it all pans out. If it is successful, then the opportunity may become more prevalent and thusly, less of a risk, perhaps.

Definately, mmabigshow, is taking a gamble here and anyone who buys in is taking a gamble too, but then MA took a gamble on the whole concept as well.

There is so much competition in the gaming market today and coupled with the tenuous global economy I don't blame them ( MA and mmabigshow ) for being careful. This is what I suspect mmabigshow is doing by looking for investors...hedging his bet to minimize any loss that come wth it. However, as an interested party in his idea, without a vested interest in the property, how can one expect to reap any profits?

I'm all in favor of getting something for nothing, but any experienced EU participant can attest to, MA is lacking in the something for nothing department.

Personally, I still play EU as entertainment. It's expensive as pure entertainment, but then so are casinos, if you are not careful. ;)

( I can't wait to read the replies to this nonsense. :) )
