The massive online-multiplayer game's focus has been described by publisher SEE Virtual Worlds as "Michael's music, his life, and the global issues that concerned him." 'Planet Michael' will let players builds virtual Jackson worlds

It has been 15 months since Michael Jackson died, leaving his Neverland in limbo. But a virtual Neverland is in the works as a tribute to the late King of Pop.

Planet Michael, an online virtual world devoted to Jackson's life, music and concerns, being developed to open late next year, will combine features of a massively multiplayer online game and social network.

"We put a focus on something that will truly allow fans to immerse themselves in a Michael Jackson-like universe or music-video-like world and interact with each other and then go on adventures and do gameplay stuff and socialize," says Josh Gordon of developer SEE Virtual Worlds.

Before he died, Jackson was exploring games and interactive entertainment prospects. "Unfortunately, he never got to this point," says Martin Biallas, president of SEE Virtual Worlds, a division of Biallas' larger company SEE (Special Entertainment Events), for which he organized real-life happenings around Star Trek's 30th anniversary and the 1999 world tour of Titanic props, sets and costumes.

The Swedish company MindArk, which operates the Entropia Universe online service, ap- proached SEE about entertainment properties that might be worthy of virtual-world treatment, and Biallas contacted the Jackson estate. "They loved it and said this could actually be something where we could also transmit the ideas (and) the vision that Michael had, and not make it just a game but make it a social-interacting platform."

Michael Jackson Inspires Planet Michael MMO

A Michael Jackson-themed massively multiplayer game will welcome players into a virtual world inspired by the late singer’s lyrics.

Planet Michael, due to launch in 2011, will draw from the King of Pop’s many philanthropic interests, which will serve as a basis for the game’s social elements. An in-game economy will allow players, in certain circumstances, to make contributions to charitable causes as they play.

See Virtual Worlds announced plans for the game Tuesday, saying Planet Michael will be a free-to-download social gaming experience without subscription fees. Note that the company didn’t say the game will be free to play: Expect some kind of pay-as-you-go model to emerge as we learn more about the game.

Michael Jackson estate licenses virtual 'Planet Michael'

The man who made the moonwalk famous will soon be getting a planet of his own.

The Michael Jackson estate has entered a licensing deal with a Los Angeles company that will create an online virtual world based on the King of Pop called "Planet Michael."

The planet will live inside the Entropia Universe, a so-called "massively multiplayer online" game that has about 100,000 active users and is run by the Swedish company Mind Ark.

The estate will work with game publisher SEE Virtual Worlds to develop the game for release in late 2011. In it, fans will be able to collect and trade virtual Jackson merchandise, and earn credits by performing challenges related to his music and dance moves.

As in other virtual worlds, players can replenish their game accounts using real money.

Martin Biallas, CEO Of SEE Virtual Worlds, said game play will focus on Jackson's dance moves and adhere to his credo of nonviolence, a departure from other online multiplayer games such as "World of Warcraft." The game will also allow for charitable contributions.

"With Michael Jackson, we're aiming at different game play," he said in an interview.

Planet Michael: Jackson gets his own MMO

Michael Jackson will live on through his music, but fans are also set to be able to visit his planet late next year.
SEE Virtual Worlds has signed an agreement with the Michael Jackson Estate to create an [COLOR=blue !important][COLOR=blue !important]online [COLOR=blue !important]game[/COLOR][/COLOR][/COLOR] called Planet Michael. The game will be free to download, aimed at 13+ gamers, and players will login to an entire planet themed around Michael and his music. Areas of the planet will look and feel like some of his most popular songs including Thriller, Beat It, and Smooth Criminal.
If you’re wondering what gameplay Planet Michael will include, SEE Virtual Worlds CEO Martin Bialias gives us a hint:

Throughout his extensive career, the King of Pop was well-known for his visionary contributions to music, dance, fashion, [COLOR=blue !important][COLOR=blue !important]entertainment[/COLOR][/COLOR] and philanthropy, and it was critical that we somehow incorporate all of those elements into the game.

Josh Gordon, also of SEE, sums up the gameplay quite well for USA Today by saying:

The player is more apt to succeed in a situation using [COLOR=blue !important][COLOR=blue !important]song[/COLOR][/COLOR], dance and adventure as opposed to violence.

Planet Michael, which has the backing of the late singer's estate, will be released next year. The developer, See Virtual Worlds, said the online multiplayer game would feature its own real-word economy and provide players with opportunities to learn about and contribute to charitable causes.

SEE Virtual Worlds To Launch Michael Jackson MMO

SEE Virtual Worlds is building an officially licensed MMO-slash-virtual-world based on the career and image of the late pop star Michael Jackson. The virtual world will also focus on exploring various global and social issues that concerned Jackson during his lifetime. Called Planet Michael, the world will be split into "continents" patterned after different aspects of Jackson's musical work and life. SEE plans to build Planet Michael as the first of a series of "interconnected planets," with each planet based on a different major license from film, TV, music, sports, or other mainstream media.

"When we first approached the Estate and talked about creating Planet Michael, one of our primary goals was to build an interactive environment where fans from all over the world come together to affirm Michael’s life-long dedication to fostering global friendships," said SEE Virtual Worlds CEO Martin Biallas, in a press statement.
