NASA MMO 26 Nov 2008 MindArk was one of about 170 interested parties in making a NASA educational MMO. MindArk's proposal was in part that a solar system like the one we live in, would be built within the Entropia Universe, a solar system open for you as Calypso inhabitants to travel to and visit. The Entropia Universe was one of the final three competitors for the contract with NASA. We congratulate the winners of the project and wish NASA the best of luck in their endeavors for this very important mission. Here under is a copy of the mail from NASA, received last night regarding their decision. Best regards, Jan Welter Timkrans "The NASA Learning Technolgies project office would like to thank you for the time, effort and care that went into your proposal and demonstration in response to our request for proposals. The review panel was impressed with your presentation. After careful consideration, however, the panel has recommended moving ahead with the Project White Card-Virtual Heroes proposal. The reviewers were impressed with the design and graphic quality of Mindark's existing resources. They felt that an expansion such as was proposed could be an asset for STEM education and hope to see Mindark move ahead with the project independently. I will be available after our Thankgiving holiday to answer any questions you might have aboutthe review process or outcome. Thank you again for your proposal and interest." http://www.entropiauniverse.com/en/rich/5078.html
Perhaps if Mindark hadn't been wasting time competing for NASA's attention, they could have completed Crytropia and had it released by now instead of postponed until next year. In my humble opinion MA need to get rid of the elderly Timkrans guy and get a real CEO, one who is in touch with reality and can get EU back to being the great fun game it used to be. 8)
I second that. Publicity is great but you have to have the product to hold the attention of the masses.
I agree all round, and I just don't know what's going on lately with EU on many fronts... Will building this virtual solar system for NASA be in effect one of these planet partnerships? Does MA realize then that there are nine planets to make, or would they knock-off a few to make the task easier? ---edit--- Also, assuming that these additional planets would include a virtual Earth, Mars, etc, - how would this fit into the overall theme of EU. It wouldn't make any sense in this sense...
I agree. I have only played for soon a year and a half, but I do feel more stuff happened already back then. They sure seem to have been busy with a lot of other things lately, having less time to focus on the entertainment for their current playerbase. Perhaps this was needed though. Perhaps they needed to focus more on other things for a period of time to be able to take the next step with this game. With the reorganizing that just have been done (info here), with the former MA chief information officer Marco Behrmann now as it seems being able to focus more on the operation and development of storylines and events, it seems we are going towards more interesting times. Hopefully the action and maintaining of storylines from the old days together with new stuff like the CryEngine and all that can bring we will have one absolutely kick-ass game. We will just have to wait and see... :)
And after writing that we get a robot invasion :) Drone Coordinators came in waves, rushing various TP's on Eudoria during the evening. Great fun!
I spotted several globals go through on these but had no idea where they were, would have liked to have seen that :).
LOL! MA spies must have hit the 'secret random BIG ACTION activity button' after they read all this. See, they can take a hint :D
