  1. Since coming to Thailand, I have been working hard on getting the game ready. I think I actually forgot how much I would take time to enjoy life as I did back in California. I need to remember that in order to really be creative I have to remove myself from the project from time to time. I must say I miss my motorcycle a lot, even if it was just to go to the store and back. Here in Chiang Mai, everything is very close and I find no reason to own a vehicle. I like to run and that helps out but thats been on the back-burner as well as it takes up too much time. I am by no means complaining rather almost to the point where I want to work 20 hours a day because I am so motivated. Playing games is also great but I find I enjoy watching others play more than I do myself. I know I need to stop and take time to smell the roses to be clich. I think I need to do something and soon.

I definitely needed to take some time off and over the weekend I did just that (or at least tried). I took the time during a long holiday weekend to enjoy what the beautiful city of Chiang Mai Thailand has to offer. I know it sounds like I am about to go into detail but that would take time I would rather be using to work. = )

We have also moved to some cool new offices and that took up too much time which might be a reason why I am working overtime. Not to mentioned, I finally moved from a hotel to a real place (with annoying ants and everything). I love both the new places but I definitely resent having to spend so much time on those activities and not work.

Anyway, I am currently back to work with the team (and the new office) and its really hard to stop at times. Stuff like, Ed I think we should go eat lunchEd I dont feel like missing diner, lets pack it up, is becoming a bit the norm. The team is just as dedicated as I but after all they are human except for Kris Altergott who I think might be some sort of subspecies of cat/human hybrid.

I guess what I am saying here is, I need help! Any suggestions would be appreciated. So if you have the time, please feel free to give me some advice. Let me know what you do for fun and relaxation. Currently what I do for that is work, but I think I might need more.

Also a good book suggestion could do wonders, as well.

    Thanks in advance.

PS. I will post a pic from the new office I am at. The other ones are not as cool as mine, so no need to post them :bandit:

    Kay Jones who?

hmm, can you make noise at home? :D
if yes, and you want something completely non-digital, make something, i.e. a simple shelf for starters. and I dont mean Ikea ;) I made myself a dvd shelf for example and loved it cause its something I dont usually do. sure, it may not look like your other furniture, but it works for cellar or attic.
or build a model of a cyrene building and post a picture here... ahh, endless possibilities.

but dont you cut yourself or anything, else everyone's gonna come screaming at me :D

    For book reading I'd recommend:
The Shadow of the Wind - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It's a different type of book, thats all i'll say :)

it's not the usual type of book i read (usually read sci-fi) but i do like other type of books too.

I read the english version as i can't read spanish.

I have no idea what the rules, regulations or costs are there, but if you were still in the US i would recommend taking Flying lessons. It is a fun exhilarating activity that requires your full attention.

Maybe scuba I have no experience with it but bet it has the same advantages and is likely cheaper.

Not sure what the kitchen in your place is like, but I find cooking really calms me down. I've tried some Thai food, and loved it. Maybe try some cooking lessons and learn some of the local dishes. Or make something you miss from back home, like chocolate chip cookies. All this is dependent ofc on your ability to cook -- if you're the type that can burn water you may not find it as relaxing (nor would the local fire department) lol.

    Hope you find something :)

Wow, Mr Skywalker has a very very nice suggestion there, I would definitely recommend The Shadow of the Wind as a book to read! Another, very different but totally fascinating one is The World Without Us.

As for other activities, I agree with Penny, food might be a great one. I'm very into nutrition and keep hearing "young Thai coconuts" mentioned. I'm not sure how popular they are in Thailand or if they're in your area, but maybe you could hunt them down and tell me what all the fuss is about. The local dishes thing would also be great.

Probably getting involved with anything local would actually be very nice.

Learn how to make sushi (I know that's not Thai ... but still) ... dance Zumba (... and that's not Thai ... but fun) or meditate :) Go tracking! Find a nice Whisky bar (... not Thai either, but perhaps they have something similar to Sake :D) and explore ...!

You could also try and learn the language while there. Might be good :) Tell youself you wish to learn 2 words a day or something.

You can write a book? You can call it "Become your own avatar' ... lol

At least, these are things I would considder doing :D

One of the most relaxing experiences I ever had was when I walked into the aquarium in Scheveningen in Holland. They had a room with a huge tank with seahorses. The room was darkened, and had some new age music playing. The beauty of seahorses is that they move almost majestically. Due to being contained in a tank, they have no predators to fear, and it's almost as if they know/feel it.

I toyed with the idea of setting up a tank at home, but found it is illegal in Holland to do so (It also takes forever, since you need to get the aquarium set up to an absolute perfection before you can even consider putting the seahorses in. They are highly sensitive, and preparing a tank easily takes three months).

A nice glass of whisky or cognac also does wonders if you combine it with a relaxing chair, and some nice classical music. If you have an iPhone, there are various relaxation apps out there that play nature sounds like waterfalls etc. It's also extremely relaxing to listen to.

RAZER Custom title ... uh ...

One of the things I do the last few months to relax is listening to books on my ipod and since you are in Thailand you can do that while enjoying a little time in the sun in a park maybe.
There are a lot of audio books for sale (and a lot to...uh...download as well).

And about that whiskey somebody suggested, just be sure it is not Thai Whiskey, that stuff will make you wake up with a HUGE headache (if you ever wake up withing the next few days anyway)

Wow! I have no idea who you are, but I'm from Florida right. I just recently moved to China for an exchange program. I am to spend a year here, and I so dislike it! I miss home more than anything, and I am having such a difficult time adapting. I seriously feel like crying every night lol.

I think though, that I'm getting better. Like, I'm starting to be happy about such small things that I might not even care about at home. One is like hot romen noodles. Soooo cheap, and sooo good. I never made those at home becsaue my parents didn't like them, and I was too lazy to cook them myself becasue I didn't want to wait for the water to boil hehe. Now though, I love them. I eat them almost everyday. Also, I rediscovered reading. I read "The girl with the dragon tatoo" in like 3 days. I'm reading the wal-mart effect now. I wouldn't recomend either since they both are just.. o.k.

One of the best things about being in a place so unlike my own is that everyone here treats me as if I was a star. It's not always good, but I love how nice people are to me here.

Anyway, I know it must be tough for you. I know it is for me too. I can't really offer anything to do since the only thing I've found that I can do is watch movies, and surf the net. ACTUALLY. There is something you can do. The beauty of China is that they steal like EVERYTHING. Any movie you want, they have it for.. FREE. Literally. It's on a Chinese website <REMOVED> If you need help navigating it to find the American movies, you can msg me on MSN or pm me. Anyway, nice meeting you, and know that someone who is also abroad can relate :)

  14. Thanks everyone. This weekend was much more relaxed then the last. I am very refreshed and in an incredibly creative mood! Just as an FYI, I definitely plan on cooking lessons and more golf/range time. As well as picking up the books mentioned.

    Many Thanks!
