New to Game/Next Island

  1. Where do I sell sweat to? I have yet ran into a person that will talk to me. Did I pick the wrong place to start the game? Thanks

    Hey Eseave,

Next Island has gone through tremendous changes since it opened in the latter part of 2010 and right now the planet is populated by a mere fraction of the amount of people who used to call NI home. In context of the over all world systems, populations do vary, but it may be hard to establish yourself by selling sweat in any quantities to get some PED going to pay for other things.

For what I'll share on NI locations, refer to the Entropedia map areas (Entropedia: Locations), and make sure you select Next Island from the map list. Popular areas for new comers include Crystal Arrival areas around [Lon: 136212, Lat: 84234]. See about making some friends or find another new player will to explore with you. Mentoring is now available so you may be able to find someone will to help show you things.

Unfortunately, since the population is so low on NI, I strongly suggest weighing what you want to do, consider a small deposit if possible to buy some things, do the missions, and try to find some people who can become trusted friends. If you feel you want to relocate, at least you will have tasted the fun things to do on NI--which is really quite vast if you have the means (vehicle, weapons, armor, and PED) to invest into the exploration. For someone starting out, it WILL be difficult if you want to find buyers to buy sweat and slowly start that way.

Also, be on the lookout. There should be some NI changes going into effect soon before the end of the month--I think this next Tuesday. You might see an influx of people stopping by to check out the new changes. It would be a great time to look at finding some potential friends and maybe find a society who can help you on your way.

    Good luck!

  3. most players have moved on to greener pastures.... many a promise, that never came to fruition... a Dev. team understaffed and unqualified.... NI had such promise, and killed it..... Our society even had to change its name from Next Island Noobs <had to move on>...

The current situation is not fair for new players. there is no player base due to no economy. The abundance of low tt value animal parts, and crystals, in the loot with no use, destroys any new players chance of creating a character with any efficiency.

The BP's that have been released are not for new players, and are incredibly expensive to run, your cost will be higher than the finished materials... they all seem to carry a rare ingredient tied to the mob of the month, with a bad drop rate at that...

NI does have time travel..... Dont go to greece... its a ped hole.... its underdeveloped, and not worth the hassle.... however.... crafting on NI will give you the opportunity to get time travel BP drops. Those bp's are worth running <they give a lot of residue great for other crafts, or to sell... just tt the crystals you make>

the missions can be tricky..... dont get fooled into spending 300 wools on a cheap colorator.... the tt value is not worth it.... there are wave events that popped up with one of the later updates, but they dont have much of a reward for the effort, and expense

NI does have things to hunt for uber characters.... there are a few mining spots <but no buyers>

the overall feel of NI used to be a tropical paradise with papoo's for the NPC terminals.... now they have human npc's, and big white tents..... not really like Calypso.... but with the new storyline, its not paradise.... its a refugee camp.

So since its a refugee Camp.... any Uber Noob <our Soc> has a free ride from NI, and i will extend it to trapped players <send me a message>. As a Mentor I cannot tell a new player that "it will be ok", and the content due to get released will change the planet for the better... there are other planets with better relations with the player base.

The final choice is up to you..... planets dont determine your EU experience.... you do. you have the ability to pick up and move to a better spot. If the planet you are on does not comply with the EU rules for a fair balanced experience, move on... other planets are more than willing to take up the slack.

  4. Thank you for the replies, I had figured I had chosen poorly :( I will try give it little more time in hopes I can get a transfer to a different world.

Would have been nice to know some of the worlds have little to no population. Wonder why they never combined them?

it is no fun to play alone :(

  5. NI does have things to offer.... but she take alot more than she gives... as a brand new player, try to get someone to take you to Island Girl spa... that area is great for sweating. Also try to sweat near water, sweat the mob, then drown it. They drown, you cannot. sweating sux, but it gives great skils, hang with it till you cant stand it... its worth it. if you can, sweat then kill, enknuckles are great for raising STR and weight allowed.. or you can shoot with an opallo <most eco gun in game>
the skill you want most is evade. dont be afraid of death, it happens, and you can get skills form it. try not to wear armor when sweating, it hinders skill advances. also later in the game, after your first good global or HOF..... Buy an evade skill implant, the bigger the better.... evade is the second set of armor you dont have to repair. and will make you take less hits, which is less heals, and more attack opportunities.
find a good mentor, hop in a good soc, there are a lot of opportunities in EU, travel, Explore, try a few things, ask a ton of questions, and have fun 8)

  6. Welcom to NI and EU, Eseave.

Have to agree with what people are saying here, NI has a lot of promise but the development is very slow, especailly compared to other planets.

The upcoming update has been postponed to Jan 31st, by MindArk, the parent company. However, it should include a set of new missions designed to introduce new players to the game. Along with other long-time players here, though, I have become cynical and will wait to see these missions before praising them.

The planets in Entropia Universe are not all by the same people. MindArk (MA) run the overall universe and planet Calypso, but planets Rocktropia, NI, Arkadia and the soon-to-be-released Cyrene are run by separate companies, so combining them is not really an option, unless one of them buys out one of the others.

You may want to have a look at EntropiaPlanets.com - Entropia Universe forum, information, wiki and tools, which covers the whole of the Entropia Universe, not just one planet. Plus there are forums for the other planets out there.

The other thing is, of course, that you've arrived here when we're having problems with the forum, which seem to be taking a long time to fix.

Edit:If you haven't seen it, check out this thread http://www.nextislandlife.com/events/2944-fourth-nor.html - free to enter race around part of NI, vehicle provided, with PED prizes. You can see vids of past races in threads for the other NOR's.

  7. You can also collect Papplon (required for Kylon's blue and Miranda violet), Bombardo (required to craft Elysian Power Spheres) and Broken Elysian Technology (to create Elysian Tech Chips), that can be found on the ground, and sell them on the auction.

  8. NI island is small and relatively un-populated, but not without opportunity. Calypso, on the other hand, is huge, populated, and for a brand new player it can be overwhelming. Other planets fall somewhere in-between. The thing to remember is that your avatar with all its acquired skills can travel from world to world (game to game). The skills and experience you gain here become part of you. EU is something that can be played for much longer than most other games - many years, and there is no end, no winning, so take you time and keep learning as you go.

If NI is too lonely for you, you can probably hitch a ride for free to somewhere else - but the most important things is to find a mentor or society to help you along and give you a personal connection to EU. Wherever you go and whatever you end up doing, having someone to share your ups and downs makes all the difference.

I spend time in Crystal Center when I'm on Next Island (heading back today) and I'd be glad to help to whatever degree suites you.

    Cheers!
    Miles

  9. Each planet is owned by a different company, that's why they are not combined, with Mindark being the owners of the platform and space(they also created Calypso).

Check out the events section of the forum, I am hosting the 4th NOR(Nextisland Outback Race) on the 28th, I provide the vehicles, so you might want to check that out. Also with the increase of players gathered in one area it will be easier for you to find a ride to another planet.
