Further info: Guess the winning bid of the moon auction! UPDATE 21 March 2013 The moon estate is now on auction for 1,500,000 PED = 150,000 USD start bid. We will keep a bid history in this frame. Bid history 1,500,000 PED, start bid, 21 March 2013 ??? Own the moon in Entropia Universe! After the sale of Crystal Palace Space Station in 2010 another major space estate will be auctioned in Entropia Universe. It was first mentioned in State of the Universe Address 2013, postponed a few times and subject to speculations. The estate will be a moon to reside within Entropia Universe Space entity and will not be a part of any planet. Moreover the Entropia Universe Moon will be a kind of planet itself allowing the owner to market it and recruit new Entropia Universe participants that will generate revenues. The revenue sharing will be executed as follows: Activity on the moon estate by participants recruited by Moon Manager: 35% Activity on the moon estate by all other participants: 10% Activity elsewhere within Entropia Universe by participants recruited by the Moon Manager: 25% Meaning for at best 150.000 USD (starting bid) you receive at worst case 10% of the income generated by the estate. At the same time you enter the competition with MindArk and the Planet Partners for recruiting new players. With this kind of setup MindArk for the first time derive from the not completely successful Planet Partner concept. The auction starts on 21 March 2013 and will end on 04 April 2013. We will collect all information that becomes available in this thread and/or the respective wiki page: Entropia Universe Moon. P.S.: It's not the first time MindArk have engaged in a moon related project, see bottom of this post. Source: http://www.entropiauniverse.com/entropia-universe/announcements/moon/ Moon estate FAQ Moon Estate FAQ Q: If I deposit funds and bid on the moon auction, will MindArk forego the withdrawal fee for unsuccessful bidders? A: Yes. The withdrawal fee will be waived for all participants who make an individual deposit of at least $25,000 between March 1 and April 4, 2013. The withdrawal fee waiver will apply to an amount equal to the total deposit amount made during the fee waiver period. Q: What about deposit fees? A: MindArk recommends that parties interested in making large deposits into Entropia Universe use the bank transfer deposit method. The only fees associated with this deposit method are those charged by your own financial institution; MindArk charges no fee for deposits made via bank transfer. Q: When is the moon estate expected to be released? A: After the auction is completed, MindArk will contact the Moon Operator to discuss overall design aspects of the moon estate. Depending on the specific details from that discussion, the moon estate is expected to be released late in Q2 or in Q3 of 2013. Q: Will it be possible to add additional features and/or expand the moon estate? A: Yes. Further development of the moon estate beyond the initial specification is indeed possible, and can be proposed to the MindArk team once the auction is completed. Note that any such added features will be subject to MindArk approval, as well as additional development costs. Q: Can the Moon Operator use its own team to develop the moon estate? A: No. All initial and future development will be performed by MindArk. Q: Will the Moon Operator be required to sign any agreements or documents? A: Yes. The person holding the account of the Moon Operator will be required to sign MindArk’s standard Marketing Partner Agreement, the Moon Operator Agreement, and a Mutual Non-Disclosure Agreement. Q: How will revenue from the moon estate and marketing partnership be paid? A: Revenue will be paid out monthly to the moon estate deed holder. Q: Are the revenue share percentages negotiable? A: No. Q: Can the Moon Operator sell shares or deeds? A: There will be a single deed for the moon estate. Group ownership or further revenue sharing will not be supported. Q: Is the moon part of Calypso or any other Planet Partner? A: No, the moon is its own territory, just as other planets. Q: Where is the moon be located? A: A mysterious wormhole was recently discovered in local space. Exploration of the other side of the wormhole revealed a strange, planetless moon. A space station is under construction that will stabilize the wormhole and allow travel between local space and the region of space on the other side of the wormhole, where the moon was discovered. Q: Will there be a teleporter to or from the moon? A: All access to and from the moon will be made via the wormhole space station, which will allow avatars to enter the wormhole, transporting them directly to the Lunar Command Center. Q: Will the subsurface cavern areas have hunting and mining taxes? A: There will be no hunting or mining taxes on the moon estate. Q: How large will the subsurface caverns be? A: Approximately 1.5 times the size of the asteroid space resort domes. Q: How will mining work in the subsurface caverns? A: The caverns will use the indoor mining logic system, which results in a lower search radius and larger finds. Q: What size will the apartments be, and how many item points will they have? A: Apartments will be medium-sized compared to existing apartments in Entropia, and will feature 150 item points. Q: Will the moon creatures have their own loot items? A: The loot from moon creatures will be a mixture of familiar items and resources and completely new items. Those new resources will be used for manufacturing other new items unique to the moon. In 2010 they completed a study for European Space Agency , its result is seemingly settled in a moon-like environment: > .
Obviously this is the major estate that MA was hinting at recently and I see a repeat of the asteroid scenario here. It would be like the great creator coming down in RL and announcing "here's a new moon being put up for auction..."
I really thought the proclaimed "completely new revenue model" would be rather based on something similar to Calypso Land Deeds, meaning shared ownership of an estate by players. Now this rather looks like they are producing their own mini planets and try to sell them off (might even by the remnants of the ESA project). I think there's noone really claiming the Planet Partner concept was a success so far... I'm not sure but the revenue sharing doesn't seem like a good deal to me. You get 10% of revenues from existing players? And you have to engage in marketing, actually competing with MA and all the planet partners? I mean, the moon estate doesn't really sound like a significant competitor to existing planets, given its size, restriction of content, lack of development opportunities and unique 'selling point'. That and 150.000 USD startbid? I'm pretty sure someone will buy, but remember Medusa's Head... Also interesting: Change from "MindArk PE AB" to "Entropia Universe AB" (which is ex-EUSO and a 100% subsidiary).
Yep, first the asteroid, then the Medusa Head island/s (albeit that's still 'on calypso'...), and now a new moon. If other planet partners start doing the same thing we may end up not knowing where we are from one month to the next.
What is the difference between a premium shop and normal shop? 100 apartments and 10 shops that can be sold off to other players and/or used in trade to build a marketing team. Sounds doable to me. I would want to know how many and what kind of BP would be coming out for the 2 new types of mined resources. Alas I don't have the funds for initial bid.
Would this be only during the development phase or ongoing? Also does this mean there could potentially be more missions then the 4 mentioned in the press release?
Well I doubt nobody didn't see this one coming. I could have written this in December based purely on my own speculation. It was never going to be anything else really. (ok didn't know they would do a revenue split - thats new but doesn't really shock me rigid either) Have to say I think so too. Its really unfair/a bad business model for new players first experience to be "a room" on a moon far away from the other planets that is likely fairly underpopulated aside from a few silent elite players. If you were a new player, would you rather start in the mountains of Thule? or at the arrivals place deep in the forest and do the mountain tunnel run on Arkadia? personally, I'd rather start in a "room" in space... no no not really. The other point here is that once MA have their money this "opportunity" to "work with them" to "develop" the moon will likely quickly evaporate into "we have other priorities, the ubas are hunting the kick ass mobs we gave you, what more do you want?" Don't think that's fair? OK ask any major estate owner how accomodating MA have been about helping them even get everything they were promised in the original sale. The idea of offering "more" than just delivering the original itinery seems far fetched and unlikely to happen. Also... pics (or it didn't happen) ;) Just my thoughts Wistrel

Let's use this thread to keep something like a bid history, post#1 and the Moon estate wiki page will be updated accordingly.
Images of the estate deed. One thing that stands out is the fact that you can not sell the deed without official approval, presumably from MindArk. Also the name of the moon is LO-J2MP, anyone wanna guess what that stands for? So far no bids on the moon yet.
