Edward Magyar Republic has agreed to be our second Famous Islander. (Kitten was our first.) Magyar first came to my attention about ten minutes after I started work at Next Island, by inviting Next Islanders on to his soc’s teamspeak channel to call for monkey rescues. How did you pick your avatar name? Waaay back in 1997 while I was a sleep deprived university student I discovered a game called Ultima Online. I was also at the time studying European History. Combining lack of sleep, empty character slots waiting to be filled, and a chapter on the Austro-Hungarian Empire one afternoon the name Magyar Republic was born. And its been that way ever since. If I were looking for you on Next Island, where would I find you and what would you be doing? If you were looking for me on Next Island, you might find me west of Ajolite Ridge doing a little deep sea fishing. I don’t ask for much. Just a hook, a line, and the warm ocean currents… What’s your favorite possession? My favorite possession? Hmm. My sword. Kilic Vass unlimited. Always sharp. Always ready to rock n roll. Never leave home without it. That and my Santa hat. What would you tell a new Islander? I would tell a new islander Puri te tarau ita e te taweratia. I live modestly with my wonderful girlfriend theFeesh in one of the greatest urban environments in the United States. We have everything we could ever ask for, and its allowed us a great opportunity to be part of the new industries building up in Virtual Reality both as players and real world entrepreneurs.
