I am excited about the approach of Next Island and would like to be able to use these forums here as much as possible. The forums here "feel" different than many of us are used to, I don't know if that is good or bad. It is important that each of the planet partners forums have their own feel to them, but at the same time I think they should be easily navigatable and usable by us the users. I would like to compile a list of bugs that we find or features we would like changed or added to present to administration so that they can see what they would like to implement to make things better. 1. Log in issues using the user bar at the bottom of the page. (it doesn't remember we are logged in and we have to keep logging in even while trying to post) 2. We need a sub-forum for about nextislandlife.com where posts like this one as well as rules etc... could be found. 3. Wasted space between topic sections needs to be removed. 4. Bug with video covering the log in userbar 5. Stricter Registration (too many spambots :/ )
I dont like the way that the main forum list page looks, http://www.nextislandlife.com/forum.php what do you guys think? I think it would be better if it looked more like ef, pcf, and ep have it, but maybe thats just because its what im used to. I don't like the way its spread apart, and voiced my opinion in another thread, I also don't like the Latest Hof widget on the right side......but that can be closed.
What do you mean by spread apart? Even though I dont really pay attention to the hof widget I think its kind of cool to have the option. narfi

SO far all of these issues are being looked into. Mainly I want to tackle the settings for registration and help solve the Spam stuff first. I do know that a new more unique template will be coming soon to help separate NextIslandLife.com from Neverdie.com
The twitter gadget looks sloppy. It needs to be cleaned up, and if possible display the topic title of the tweet rather than a long and clumsy URL. Instead of having the RSS feed from next island filtering prominently into the page, why not have it feed into a general news section that requires moderator approval before being moved to the front page? Also, the news section is too small and not dynamic. It feels very cluttered. Consider switching to a flash based menu where the top 3 articles with accompanying image are displayed and let the user cycle through. Lastly, the sidebars need some life brought into them. I feel the intent here is to display the background as much as possible. The background itself though does not lend itself to prominence. Using less prominent effects on an object that isnt strong to begin with only serves to weaken the site in general, not strengthen the overall presentation.
A new template/style should be live soon. We are changing from the Rocktropia one to have some separation between the two communities. Thus why I have not made many changes to the home page. I'm waiting until the new template is live.
