The Nielsen company recently conducted research on the PlayStation 3, asking 700 gamers ages 7-54 who are interested in acquiring the system in the next six months, why they were choosing Sony's console. The main reason, as you might have guessed, was the Blu-Ray player. Secondary consideration include the price, the library of games and the ability to connect with friends.

Specifically, 65 percent of people who want to buy PlayStation 3 said they are interested in the console because they want Blu-Ray capabilities, where 63 percent cited "The recent price reduction has put the system in my price range" and 62 percent said "I like the library of games available."

Near the bottom of the list is "I am looking forward to buying a specific game," with only 12 percent of PlayStation 3 owners giving this as a reason. The research was conducted during the three weeks prior to and after the release of God of War 3, so it seems the whole idea of a system-selling game is shaky.

    Anyway, here's the full list:

I bought my PlayStation 3 for the the games, the Blu-Ray, and for use as a media server, in that order. What about you? Why did you buy your PS-triple?
