Too many people keep falling for it, and they're not any better at detecting it than a couple decades ago. Even the opposite, it seems. People can say "freedom" and "but..." in the same breath all the time and not detect what's wrong. So someone displays a symbol which triggers the politically correct and righteous on top of those actually victimized by what it represents (most of whom are long gone anyway). Oh be still, my heart.

What if a whole army of real Neonazis was in your VR and spoiled your experience with their display? They couldn't do a thing to anyone, that's VR, a "safe space" in the best sense of the word. "Safe space" in the worst sense of the word, as its violent advocates have it across university campuses and elsewhere these days, wants to be rid of anything and anyone dissenting their own views and thus achieves the exact opposite -- outright war and oppression. But we play kill and rob all day long and find nothing wrong with it. Quite the opposite, we come here in the first place to enjoy these things and let off steam with some pixel violence, because it doen't hurt anyone real. The piracy discussion might be a borderline case since MA's setup allows for putting real money at risk, but that's the full extent of it. This thought control following you down every hole you try to retreat in is much, much worse. Big Brother cracking down is one thing, netizens helping him by denouncing transgressers is another (what is "Blockwart" in English?). THAT is something we've experienced in the real world ad nauseam and with real lifes destroyed. Millions and millions of them. Now let Taco be. Because next it's your (sexual?) phantasies.

Well, my post was about forgotten old literatur, not about Trump.

But I agree with you about the "thought control". I lived 35 years in East Germany and often I sat hidden in my little hole (brain) wondering how much of Orwells dystopia already became true. Considering, that some of my fellow students or colleaugues are "Blockwarte", informer of the "Ministerium fuer Staatssicherheit".

The most interesting aspect for me is how far external thought control by police, government or whatever will evoke internal thought control in individuals, (had to search it at Leo.org) anticipatory obedience.
