Windows 1.x looked like DosShell in MS-DOS 4.x. 2.x didn't fare much better. Windows 3 would look somewhat familiar to modern windows users. Then, the door opened... Windows 3.1 (aka Windows for workgroups)! If you had a modem, and a SLIP account someplace, you could get this amazing thing called Trumpet Winsock and another thing called Mosaic. With these 2 software packages, you could explore this thing called the World Wide Web, which was kind of cool, but didn't have nearly the content that Gopherspace had. Ah, memories!
