Came across this on Google news, and figured I'd share the story. Turbine revived D&D online by removing the neccessity of subscriptions: http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2009/10/ddo-free-to-play.ars
The free option is only available on US servers. I play DDO on EU servers, and those still carry subscriptions. It is one of the best mmorpgifications of an old p&p game, I must say. It does lack the total freedom of the old game, but the mechanics and rules have been translated well. It's also very cool to see your ava expand its range of melee animations as your levels increase. It's a small eye-candy treat that adds volumes to the fun factor.
I always wanted to play this DDO but I promised myself not to never pay for any monthly subscription. I hope this is not too much limited but hey, as long as it's not time limitation I very oK with that. Thanx a lot to share the news with us. .
