I'd really like to know what is going on with Cyrene. I mean clearly there is someone at the wheel... but I wonder if it is literally that, "someONE". I'm wondering if it has sort of been down scaled to a experimental side project. i.e. something that will grow with the player base or something. Probably never going to "hard launch" any more I don't think and they might be on to something there. I suspect the hay day of "the next Big MMO" has perhaps come and gone.
I don't know if you're following the discussions here: http://cyreneforum.com/threads/cyrene-dynamic-upgrade-map-discussion.6671/ As far as the public is given to understand, the formerly three quadrants of the first Cyrene Beta are now crammed into the corner which used to be vacant, while development of the real thing is ongoing. Everything is pretty much working as before, most bugs are getting fixed and new content is being constantly added to keep up player interest. The faithful are a small but dedicated crowd. I've been back there several times for short stints of binge-play whenever finances permit and haven't regretted it. I like the mobs and missions and everything, only the grandeur and open vastness is missing. Was thinking of making it my home, just didn't quite get over the Big Crunch. Delays in development have been acknowledged already, and knowing how big software projects go, I am not surprised. Their community managers are doing a good job at being very approachable to any questions you might have, I've been in contact several times. Nobody really tries to nail them down to a specific date anymore, it makes no sense anyway. If you don't like what you find there now, you probably won't after the 'hard launch'. Concerning the financial prowess of the organization(s) standing behind them, or their willingness to continue supporting this project while it's (likely) in the red, nothing is known for sure. Of course they are saying not to worry. It's up to everybody's own judgement where to spend your money.
