    New post up!
Playing with Real Money: Colonizing Virtual Worlds: May 2011 Q&A from Neverdie

The interesting points for me were,
    1. NDS only working on Rocktropia now.
    2. Blueprints and UL items potentialy as soon as the next vu.
    3. Some more information about the studios relationship with DA.
    4. Wave events soon!
    5. Beacon or Instanced type events wont be happening soon :(
    6. plenty more, but you get the idea.

The reply button does the same. It quotes the entire post.

And it was interesting, because ND is basically saying that Arkadia Studios launched a planet with a fully working economy, but yet, the NDS team has somehow not been able to use the same systems?

I do not know the details of when what systems were released, but if Arkadia Studios had access to the systems it would be extremely odd if NEVERDIE Studios did not have the same access. NDS already had two launched planets, and thus also the experience of how running a planet really works. Arkadia Studios did not have that, and at the same time as implementing all the stuff that is missing on ROCKtropia, also had to focus on getting a fully functional planet out the door at the same time.

Something does not seem to add up for me.

Ok I see what you mean.

I realize that we both are looking at it with our own predetermined ideas etc.. which will show us each something different from the same text.

I agree with you that it would seem that nds had access to the same tools, kits, whatever, etc.. that the Arkadia team did. So really you have to break it up into two sections.
    1. Comparing the two planets and how they each did opening week.
    2. Comparing the two planets and where they are today.

I think either way you look at it, Arkadia comes out looking better.
I haven't made it to Arkadia yet so can't judge for myself, only by reports I hear from others, which I need to try and edit out what I know each of those peoples predetermined ideas were.

If you compare the 1st point, then yes Arkadia had a huge advantage over Rocktropia opening day. Not only did they have alot more tools etc.. from MA to implement stuff at the beginning, but they also had 2 other planets mistakes to observe and learn from.

The 2nd one is a little more interesting and I wont know untill next week if my thoughts on it are correct or not.
Yes, Arkadia right now has a full range of bps and the full economic cycle of loot, mined resources and crafting.
Was it done before Rocktropia had the same? My guess is that they both finished at about the same time. (because they both had the tools for the same amount of time) The 31st is a very interesting date if you have been reading all the different forums lately. Even more interesting considering that ND was chatting in local at the Vampire Cathedrial Backgarden a day or two before that date started showing up on the other forums.

He said that this next week would be when we get all of the Rocktropia blueprints etc... (this was 1 or 2 days before arkadias launch date, so an approximate quote from that time would have been, "not this week, but next week we will get what we need")

Then launch day for Arkadia comes, and there is something wrong. The blueprints wont be ready till the 31st even if they do launch. hmmm... they did launch, and there were blueprints.

    My speculation on it all,
For some reason there was an issue in the mind ark system which held up blueprints these last few weeks. Arkadia and NDS had both done all they could and were waiting on MA to implement them.
Then comes MA balancing, and their plan for the Universe. I have said it before and im still sure its true. MA intends to have players hopping planets as much as possible. Everyone chasing the carrot on the stick, the grass is greener on the other side. 10yr olds playing soccer. etc....

It was in MAs best interest for the prints on Arkadia to be there opening day, better for the entire universe. So they were there. Now a week will have gone by, everyone and their mother has gone to arkadia, now time to make them jump again. Rocktropia bps are released in mass (my hope) much like all of the Arkadia bps for all types of armors, tools, and weapons. The week after that NI gets their big VU that everyone has been hoping for, Greece is finished, the TT bps work better or there is new system replacing them, they will likely get a large batch of bps as well. Ok now we have peope on Arkadia, Rocktropia, and NI, now what? hmmm here come the Eomon and Longtooth, everyone returns to Calypso for the big migration, and really its not the mobs that are migrating, its the lemmings that MA is leading around, us the players.

this is all pure speculation on my part, but if you read from all sides of it, I think it is a very possible actuality.

sorry im really tired right now and heading to bed, hope what I typed made sense,

    gl and have fun :)

  11. Arkadia has pretty landscapes and well-animated mobs.
Rocktropia has emo NPCs and fewer players. Those are the features that stood-out to me.
Thankfully, Rocktropia has Narfi, which means I can get tips on awesome hunting/mining methods. I started the game on Arkadia.
