Please Delete Code Monkeys Started Threads

Discussion in 'Next Island' started by Menace, Jan 5, 2011.

  1. Can a mod please delete all the edited threads started by Code Monkey so others can start new ones. His Edddddddddddddddddited posts are just gonna leave newbies wondering WTF? Would be better if they weren't there at all. Kind of a shame because there was some valuable input added via responses to some of those posts but I think deleting them would be the easiest and we as a community can start filling in the gaps.

  2. Fill in what gaps. What was code monkeys threads and comments about , i mean not many players or noobs are commenting on here not many registerd accounts:cool: im no noob too been around for 1 year 4 months

put it this way planet arkadia forum has more activity than this one and a lot more players commenting and the planet is not even open yet months away infact:palm:

  3. A lot of that has to do with the Calypso community's attitude towards NI, while Arkadia has the 'benefit' of being created by Ozi, a well known but not controversial figure like ND is. Also, they do have better communication with the player base so far, something that as ND has stated will hopefully change soon for Next Island too, while the influx of new players after the official launch will certainly boost activity levels up.

  4. I left calypso and never going back

Next island is great the best planet ive been on so far and plan to stay a long time on this planet.

I like the visuals on Next island and the graphics. I will support this planet in any way i can. hope to see some new blue prints tho and some new items and all that goes with it

  5. You're on the right track but not quite there. Problem Calypso has with NEVERDIE is this. When EU first came out and started dishing out real cash people always said.... "If this was my game I'd.... If I ran MindArk I'd.... Some day I'm going to.... etc, etc, etc." Then NEVERDIE came along and paid 1M PED for a virtual asteroid and everyone said "That guys an idiot! He's gonna lose it all. He'll never succeed owning something that isn't even real!". And well... not only did NEVERDIE succeed with the asteroid, he ALSO now has the ability to say what most EU players only ever dreamed of being able to say and do. The people that say they aren't jealous of NEVERDIE are just blatant liars. Thing is..... there's 2 types of jealousy over NEVERDIE.
1.) Those jealous that they weren't around when big opportunities arose
2.) Those jealous cuz they said he'd never make it and did.

The latter of the two make up the majority of the haters. The first group are able to understand his vision and don't let the understandable jealousy blind them.

  6. Don't get me wrong Menace, i totally agree with your points there. I just didn't want to turn another thread into a discussion about ND, but keep as close as i could on topic, since every thread that has his name in it seems to start flamewars all over.

And that's simply the last thing i think the community needs.

  8. Maybe not. IMO what the community needs is aggressive but well directed moderation. Define what is a flame, what is not. Start acknowledging that people are using polite language to say nasty things to each other and remove those people from posting on the forums. So far on the forums Ive participated in here there's been more of an attitude where those people are coddled and encouraged, with the mistaken belief that if such an attitude were not adopted people would not utilize the community space.

The truth of the matter is more people stay away from the forums than use them because certain key individuals ruin the experience for everyone. Those who speak out against these people end up the subject of targetted attacks. Eventually they end up so frustrated they want to scream, and sometimes they do! Their anger is a natural psychological reaction to the situation, but of course since there is no interest in resolving the situation from forum staffers the anger ends up being counterproductive and used against the person expressing it, rather than used as a catalyst for needed change.

I say bait them. Let them come here with their flames and remove them from this social circle. Give them a clear message that their poor attitudes are not welcome.

Not that anyone is going to listen to me!

Wow, delete Code Monkey's threads? What in the world have I missed? (will go read around a bit more now). This forum seems to have had 3 'waves' as it were. The first wave was a small group being all 'supportive' and so on just as they have on Arkadia forum etc, but before the planet was actually in the game for us 'pioneers' of soft launch phase. The second wave came when the planet opened for us, the first group mostly went ballistic and had nothing but criticism for the whole operation because of NDs land area etc, so weren't here helping the NI community get started. Instead the 2nd wave consisted of the few of us actually on the planet exploring and trying to help out where we could, and I remember Code Monkey was one of the most active in that, filling up this forum with good info like maps, tp lists, and the bestiary etc. I made a start on a list of the crystals (which I have neglected of late but will try to keep my eyes out for any new ones, though I won't bother anymore with adding all the info about what drops what, entropedia should be picking that slack up I'd hope).

Anyway, now we have the 3rd wave, others coming into the planet, newcomers to the game and the forum, and thinking the forum is dead, I assume mostly because there is not a lot of communication or activity from very many, including the devs and mods etc, but it seems to me there are still a few of us here so it will grow in time I hope. Off to read up on what Code Monkey has done to have led to this thread :(

  10. Magyar, i understand your point of view but i don't really share it.

I'm really not interested in enabling those that have as first and only priority to dish out all their anger and frustration for their lives by targeting some individuals. God knows there's enough of that going on in PCF, and the only thing that comes as a result is people that are trying to help being forced out or just giving up, while the noteworthy, informative threads get no views.

I think it's way more valuable to simply ignore them, and try to build up informational threads here, see if we can jump start the community and the interest now that the 'third wave' is coming in.

The threads started by Code have not been deleted but rather moved to a dump thread
    The Black Hole

That way you should still be able to find what others might have posted in the topics.

  12. Third wave :-) I like that. Its clever and accurate. A good assessment by Lee.

Its hard to share my point of view. Most people are believe the nicest thing to do is to be silently tolerant of others shortcomings. I believe the nicest thing to do is tell others where they're falling short, so that they can choose whether they continue to do so or not. The first type get along very well in society, except around alcohol. In vino veritas. :palm: The second type can too, but only if they're alcoholics! Blame it on the bottle. :D

  13. Thakns Enzo. Don't get me wrong... I like Code Monkey. I've been in 2 different SOC's with him over the past 2.5 years. I was just worried a new islander would click on a thread entitled "XXX mob" and read "ddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd".

Monkey's good shit and I'm hoping he returns when he gets his RL sorted.

In the mean time the rest of us have to pull up our socks cuz we have big shoes to fill with Monkey gone :(
