It’s no secret that Sony took their sweet time to bring the PlayStation Network up to snuff. However, since Sony doesn’t charge for PSN access, the argument has long since been “you get what you pay for” whenever complaints were levied against the service. And yet, that hasn’t stopped 78 percent of PS3 owners from hooking up their consoles to the Internet, giving the PS3 the largest percentage of Internet connected consoles when compared to the Xbox 360 and Wii.

“Today's game consoles are increasingly connected to the internet, not just to enhance their gaming experience but to access the growing variety of online media-video," director of research for Diffusion Group told Gamasutra.

It’s not surprising that more PS3s are broadband connected, but I would have expected the percentage of consoles to be higher. There was no mention of why those 22 percent of PS3 owners aren’t online, but I’d be curious to know what the second most popular reason behind “no broadband access” is.

Are you surprised by these figures? Any PS3 owners out there not connected via broadband?
