I have been hearing a lot of good things about "The thing" on Rocktropia, so I desided to check it out! I joined forces with a friend and together we flew a long way from Arkadia (space is painfully boring :D) to visit it. You enter The Thing from a movie theatre (The place is based on a movie called "The Thing"), below is a picture and a map: When we got there, we found ourselves in a frozen wasteland, some kind of military/research base. We quickly enlisted as volunteers for helping out with whatever needed to be done! After a quick lecture and a shooting range test, we were armed with beasty M16's and shotguns, equipped with proper clothing for the conditions and set on a mission to figure out what is going on in a research base deeper in the wilderness. I was also given a car suitable for the snowy roads. We set off for our mission, and what we discovered was disturbing. Abandoned bases, destroyed vehicles, and some stuff only pictures can describe: Finally we managed to reach research base, only to be welcomed by horror and destruction. But fearless and armed to the teeth we pushed forward, into the depths of the mountain and we faced THE THING. Some kind of mutant caused by failed experiments, that had wiped out people from the area. We fought with fire and steel, but we were overwhelmed by shear numbers and the mountain itself started to fall on top of us, and we barely managed to get away. As a reward for our braveness was a combat helicopter for future missions (This was Episode 1, more will be released in the future).
Great report Anna, thanks for that. Looks very tempting, I shall have to try it. Anna, Dumb question. Did they supply ammo? I am guessing not, if that's the case how much and what type would you recommend taking?
They supplied some ammo but not enough to finish the mission, I bought more from a local trade terminal, but used max 10peds worth total on the mission. The M16 you get for free is quite bad, I preferred a shotgun from the TT, and a flamethrower you get later in the mission And of course you can use your own guns, but you will have to bring the ammo from outside the place as you can only buy special ammo there used by the guns there
