Run out of Memory?

I don't get this ... I have 4GB of RAM, and even though only 3GB+ is used, I've never run out of memory playing EU, ever. Now when I went to Port Atlantis, my system tells me I've run out of memory and crashes.

At first I had FRAPS running, and figured maybe that caused it given that there were so many people at PA, but even after shutting down FRAPS, it still did the same thing. Could it be because I have the radio software running all the time? Even so, I never had this issue before, and rarely had lag.

    NOW what? :headscratch:

Video card is: 768MB Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTX

Ok, where's the sexy Geek Squad.

I have been getting the same lately. Have not had it since updating the rig last year. Can only think that stuff has got more memory intensive or some cache clearing thing buffer thing not working as it should. Dunno - need a techy.

Memory problem is not good. What operating system do you have? 32bit or 64bit windows? You can use Windows Task manager to see which process is taking lots of memory. Also try to check your page file/virtual memory. Also you can use "Anvir Task Manager Free" to manage your start ups. It's better than windows task manager. You can even find what program it's taking up memory on your taskbar. It's has a lot more features but you have to try it. It also could be that your are running out of hard disk pace. Check how much free space you have. Also do defragment regularly. Making video a lot tends to fragment your hard disk faster then anything else.

If you keep having problems Mindstar9 just contact via pm and I give you my e-mail and I could find a solution for you.

I'm having the same issue... I hoping for a "stability" patch.

i get the same issue when i hit an area with shedloads of people. i'm due for an upgrade tbh...the least of which will be the operating system to Windows 7 64bit to take proper advantage of the 4Gb RAM and the 64bit chip i have...XP 32 just isn't cutting it anymore

  6. In my OS EU is taking almost 1.5gb of memory. You have 4gb seems to be ok. I have 4gb too. But I have a 9800gt nvidia. In the mean time you probably have to avoid PA.

Doesn't sound good at all. I guess people that are not having problems with PA should post here with thier PC Specification. Looks like it's time for some upgrades.

  7. It's just because the server is so busy at the moment. In a day or two I doubt you'll have any problems, and if you go to another server area you should be OK now.

Any other software you have running will eat more memory, but I wouldn't have thought your radio software will be using much.

  8. It's probably the scenery + many ava's that have to be loaded at PA now. Slide the render bar to the left or lower details in general perhaps.

You can also check if you've the windows swap file enabled (I've it disabled on 8GB, no problems yet, but with 4GB it can be a problem now). Think the same problem may occur without the radio software, but I'd check the taskmanager how much it uses anyways.

I read many people have memory issues atm.

  9. Same problem here. Win XP Pro 32bit with 4 GB RAM, system reports 3.25 GB available.

Thanks for the input everyone, it's appreciated, and ... I think you may be right Oleg, because I've never had this issue before, and this is the first time I've ever got in game on VU or release day, so I'm sure it was overload with the amount of people. However, I was able to move ok, I just got the message that I didn't have enough memory to run the application ... meaning EU. Funny thing is, I do not have this issue with any other game I play, none, and this is the first time I've had it with EU, but like I said also the first time I ever got in game on VU day.

Here is the before pic of my Task Manager before logging into EU, and the after pic:

This should just not be an issue with a game ... my computer system is fine ... I have a 500GB hard drive, with a 1TB external hard drive that I store things on because I do video work at times, but ... just yesterday I cleared a lot of video stuff off my main hard drive because I was putting together the video of Spike and I at Billy's, and I had no issues whatsoever. When I logged into EU today, I was at Corinth, no issues whatsoever, but the minute I went to PA, it started ... didn't help that a gazillion people were driving their vehicles, boats and spacecraft by the main building and entry teleporter.

Even so, that should not have been an issue if the game was delivered with more stability. It just gets to be incredibly unnerving that we still have so damn many issues, and it dampens the spirit of play. The new Port Atlantis is amazing, but it would be nice if we could experience it properly.

BTW ... I have the Win XP Pro 32 bit w/4GB and 3GB+ showing ... this stuff should not be happening, and ... I lowered my graphics to medium, but haven't touched anything else, but the second time I got in game there were less people at PA than earlier given the time, and I still had an issue with the low memory message coming up before I lowered the graphics.

  11. When I go to PA and change my setting from all safe (aside from the slider and the 2 options under there) to high or very high it suddenly uses 600 MB more memory.
That said, billies area uses 250 MB less memory on the semi-safe setting than PA already.

That swapfile is about 5GB in size it seems and is only half used. The physical memory is appearantly running low enough to trigger the warning.

You could look in the processes tab for memory hungry thingies, including the radio. See if anything not required could be booted.
If plenty people experience difficulties perhaps a patch will come (or the requirements will be adjusted for high settings from 2 to 4GB).

  12. I guess we need to have computers of this spec when there lots of noobs in PA.

Core i7 processor with Hyper Threading
    6GB DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600Mhz PC3 12800 Ram
    2 x 1000GB hard Drive raid 0 + backup
    GeForce GTX 470 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16

This will probably stand all the noobs in PA.

Don't we just love the new vehicles?

I havent had this problem yet (then again, I havent had time to play much yet) - but something tells me it's all the new things going on in game now - it just can't handle it anymore. We had problems before - and it was hell enough with cars ... lol

I hope your problem will be solved soon MindStar - I USE to have this - but then Peter got me more ram ...

I should not have the issues I have with the amount of RAM I have now, which I think is the average perhaps of what most have? I don't know ... if we have to reconsider rebuilding computers just to play EU, that's not a good thing in my book. I've never been in a game where there are lots of people congregating in one place and have these issues.

In another game we play, the GM's at times go to different cities and bring out these huge-ass mobs for everyone to attack ... it takes a LONG time to take the thing down, but there are rewards, and whenever we had hordes of people engaging in this, it just wasn't an issue, so I don't know why MA is having such a time of it. Is it CE2 causing all of this as the game gets more content heavy? I've had the game Crysis for a long time and have played it on my computer, which I've had for 3 years now, and never had an issue with content ... meaning terrain, etc.

I don't know ... I'm no techie, but with the type of experience I've had with other games, this just doesn't seem like it should be happening.

  15. Well I just did a run around a reasonably active PA and had no issues.

However I run on low graphics settings simply because it loads a lot faster (noticable in storage, teleporting to new areas, or just running around).

Even then I was only getting ~20 FPS, which is pretty terrible for CE2 at low settings.

Not sure what is causing it, however Entropia has always chugged along and been a resource hog and that doesn't seem to be improving very much even with CE2.

Almost EVERYONE I know that plays this game had to do exactly that when Cry2 came along

Yes, I know Hon ... and before CE2 I upgraded my computer well in advance, and this is the first time I've had this issue. It's not only more costly IN game to play, but OUT of game as well. Is this something that is going to progressively get worse as they add stuff?

I don't want to tell you what I'm thinking right now ...

something everyone is missing is that there's memory and there's memory. 4GB RAM might only 50% utilised, but what about the GPU memory?

at a deeper techie level, and this might not be the case, i wonder if "out of memory" errors can be triggered by processer cache misses or the such. from time to time ive had out of memory with other (non game) apps that didnt reflect the main memory usage.
