So I have a Second Shite account but I've never really "got it" so to speak. Just found the whole experience fiddly and awful and couldn't understand the point. I recently started receiving mail shots from them though and the most recent one struck me as interesting. In short they were advertising a set of themed areas in SL that reminded me an awful lot of MA's themed planet setup. There are a bunch of pics and descriptions here (quite a few scifi worlds there too): Role-playing Communities | Second Life So, are these any good? Do they actually have "a game" going on in these areas or is it as "look/see/build(ifyoucanfigureoutthecrummyinterface)" as the rest of SL? Would be interested to know what the SL fans think just in case there are any on here. Wistrel
I bet it is exactly what you suggested. Aww and no I am not a SL fan but spend a little time in there also trying to build something for it but the tools are crap. Thus I moved on for Blue Mars you should probably check this out... it´s RCE and more like SL than Eu. However I read the devs work on a "game" engine atm which means that developers there can make proper games for other participiants to play instead of the stupid controls stuff u see in SL.
SL is an interesting place. It truly is open-ended. You can do anything you want. I have an account since 2006 and have been on and off for a bit. THe Roleplaying sections can be very indepth. There are "sandboxes" to build stuff, upload you own GFX or 3-D renders. Just navigating around a bit takes some time. Also many areas change-a lot. What can be a developed area here with decent amounts of people can be a waste land the next month. What I love about SL is that I can run it on Win, OSX, Linux.
Just marketing same product differently. Those areas or similar allready existed in the game. When I tried it some years ago they were still there but what do you do when your there? Well talk, build etc and soon gets boring ...
Yes, they are good. Yes, those are actually games. No, you don't have to build anything, but looking and playing might help. ;D Edited, forgot to add: And did I mention that all those games are created by users? Yes, people like you and me. If you want a cool game in SL, just go and build it. Nothing in SL but the platform is created by Linden Lab. Anything else is user created. And the tools for that are plenty, inworld tools (that are far from being crap IMO) and 3rd party software like Poser, 3D Max and such. I'm active in SL since early 2004 and in EU since 2007. I have to say it again: EU and SL are very different, have little in common. IMO comparing them doesn't make sense.
Wrong, see my post above. Those games you saw might not be around anymore, old stuff is replaced very often. And Linden Lab is not the one who makes them and decides what happens to them. For their marketing purposes they use just cool user created stuff. Easy like that. And what to do when there....well that is up to your imagination and creativity. Have a look what I do with a bunch of friends in SL: U2 in SL - A Virtual Band in Second Life And trust me, we have a shitload of fun with that project since 2004 and it's still a piece in progress. And we made everything ourselves, the equipment, avatars, animations...everything you see. Good times! And I do love to kill shit every so often in EU and I think it's a great game. What sucks majorly is the bunch that runs the company. :D
