Most of you dont know me but i am a miner. Im still working on my skills but mining is 90% of what i do in EU. Because of this i have done some research into mining tecniques as well as some studies on how mining works in game. I want this thread to be used to hold these discussions as well as for me to present the forum with my findings as well as anyone else that wants to contribute. If the forum staff would like to make this thread Sticky i will be regularly updating this thread as well as adding new discussions. I hope my knowledge will help those that have questions as well as help those new to the art of mining. Also, if this thread is in the incorrect place feel free to move it. My First topic will be a common one. It is about the stratgeies that miners employ to find the most claims for their drops. The options i know about are: Random approach - scattered mining with no pattern of plan. Inline - drop a mine every x meters in a line. Zig Zag - drop a mine every x meters and turn 90 degrees forming a zigzag. Skill gain - a concept that skill gains happen when you are within x meters of a claim. This is used to triangulate a claim location. Carpet Bombing - Mining in a grid or honeycomb patteren at exact points to cover an entire area. I am currently playing with both Carpet bombing and Skill gain based strategies. I want to know what you all Think.
I´m a fan of the skillgain method , dunno why but i still think that skillgains tell you something. My success with this method is not validated , sometimes i drop like hell in a skillgain area and find nothing :(
I was a fan of that but ive kind of migrated toward a honeycomb carpet bomb approach. I log each drop location and skill gains i get there. Im trying to see if skill gains actually do tell you something. So far its inconclusive but im still getting data.
