OK, MS9 told me to so I will ... MS9 is putting together some playlists on Mindstar Radio, And these are my submissions to her so far... My modus Operandi on these will be to pick a track, and then see where that takes me - So it could be very random LOL Number 1 - Voices This one started with listening to Shinedown's cover of the wonderful Lynyrd Skynyrd song, Simple Man. I thought this was a great example of a distinctive voice, so I went off into the ether to seek other "can only be" voices, and came up with this list.. Here is the origional by Lynyrd Skynyrd, live from youtube.. > Until I got a bit drunk and stopped... Shinedown - Simple Man (Acoustic) note: lynyrd skynyrd Cover Santana feat. Everlast - Put your lights on Staind, Aaron Lewis feat Fred Durst (Live) - Outside Audioslave - Like a Stone Placebo - Running up that Hill Note: Kate Bush cover The Who - Behind Blue Eyes Note: good cover of this done by Limp Bizkit Stone Sour - Bother Foo Fighters - Best of you (Live Acoustic version - Skin and Bones Album) Bon Jovi - Dead or Alive - Live Acoustic version from the 2010 release Seether - Broken (Live version from One Cold Night Album) Sting - Fragile Seal - Dont Cry Shinedown - 45 Acoustic Disturbed - Prayer Killswitch Engage - End of Heartache Korn - Twisted Transistor Stone Sour - Though Glass Placebo - Protect me from what I want Neil Young - Like a Hurricane Hugh Masekela - Stimela Live version (probably not suitable, but worth a listen :)) Juluka - Impi Johnny Cleg & Savuka - Asimbonanga Miriam Makeba - Pata Pata MS9 spooled this up and played it last night :) And onto the next one :)
And the next one started with listening to the new Hurts Album, and it really harks back to the old 80's stuff. So I started with theirs and went back to where it may have come from. > And a few other things as well. Hurts - Wonderful Life Simple Minds - Belfast Child Bananarama - Cruel Summer The Cult - She Sells Sanctuary Nik Kershaw - Wouldn't it be Good Depeche Mode - Blasphemous Rumours The Cure - Lovesong Pet Shop Boys - It's a Sin Gary Numan - Cars A flock of Seagulls - I Ran Talk Talk - It's my Life Tears for Fears - Mad World Spandau Ballet - Only when you leave Police - Dont stand so close to me Thompson Twins - Doctor! Doctor! Howard Jones - Like to get to know you well Falco - Rock me Amadeus Frankie goes to Hollywood - Two Tribes Duran Duran - Rio Vanessa Paradis - Joe le Taxi Prince - When doves Cry Gloria Estefan - Rhythm is gonna get you Genesis - Mama Joe Jackson - Is she really going out with him Deaon Blue - Real gone kid Big country - In a Big Country Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing - the live one from the Alchemy Album
That is what happens when you trawl through Spotify under the influence heehee - Always a journey :) (Safara - the Swahili word for Journey / Safari = to go on a journey)
Thanks Spike ... I'm actually working on the second playlist and will let you know when it's available. I'll probably set it up to play on-air Thursday evening while you're doing your run about in EU, so let me know again what the best time is for you. I'm going to be loading it up before I head out to the campus to teach my classes Thursday evening, so maybe I can get it in there at a time that's convenient for you (and the other MSR tuner-inners) to listen to. Just as an FYI to others ... what I'm planning to do is create a recording to introduce each new playlist, and then insert it just before the playlist starts so listeners know it's a special playlist. That's why, anyone putting together a playlist should also give the inspiration for the playlist (if there is one) so that I can do the same. However ... if any of you start your own threads like Spike did with your own playlists, then please keep in mind that I don't play tracks that have a lot of cursing in them ... especially the F-word. I'm not a prude by any means, and can get quite colorful in my own right (beyond purple even), but I've made a conscious decision that I do not want to play this type of music on MSR, and that's the way it's always been. There are other outlets if someone wants a more uncensored version of their music. That's what I love about choice. :D I'm actually going to be creating an announcement regarding MSR and what's available for the community soon, so stay tuned for that to appear in a thread in the not to distant future. :) Thanks for posting Spike ... you and Rocky have always turned me on to some great music. I loved the first playlist, and I'm having fun with the second one as well.

Something I spotted somewhere reminded me of Night Nurse. Fired up youtube and had a chilled hour or so with the Riddim :) I remember Night Nurse as being the first song they played on the radio after they announced Diana's death back in '97, odd sort of time that was here in the UK. Anywho, a great tune. Get your head bobbing :) Riddim > Artist - Song Gregory Isaacs - Night Nurse Peter Tosh - Johnny B Good Bob Marley - Exodus Black Uhuru - Sponji Reggae Toots & The Maytals - Funky Kingston Bob Marley - Three Little Birds Jimmy Cliff - I Can See Clearly Now Dennis Brown - Revolution Aswad - African Children Maxi Priest - Wild World Eddy Grant - Living On The Frontline Peter Tosh - Get Up Stand Up Bunny Wailer - Armagideon Joe Higgs - Come On Home The Itals - Rasta Philosophy Bob Marley - Jamming
