Taming under the following circumstances...

Discussion in 'General Entropia Universe Discussion' started by McCormick, Jul 13, 2014.

  1. Hi, I havent really played for 1 year and stayed away from Entropia completely for about 5 months now, without a single login.
I made a so called pause, which people now & then advice. It felt good to leave this "special" universe behind for some time.

I did not have a single chat or mail about entropia in that time and just recently Wistrel told me that taming might return (once again)...[jesus christ, an MA announcement]...and on top of it, a pokemon app, with "cats&dogs VS. pandas and Atroxes"...ya, that sounded indeed like...I would have to SEE it for myself.

So I logged in, and after 2 days of excessive playing (beta testing) I come to the following conclusion :

I did not expect to enter a bug-free world without glitches. I also did not expect an overkill-social-interface...
I did not get dissapointed...everything, except for the next re-re-redesign of the interface, felt (buggy) like always.

And now I try imagine the 1st stage of taming, getting added under the following circumstances :
(when hundreds of people will go all "woohoo" about it anyway)

    -heavy lag in grassy areas
-setting "terrain quality" to "very good" now seems to be unplayable (i7 920 + GTX 670 + 6GB of RAM running Win 7 64bit Pro)
(reminds me again, that CE² wasnt made for MMOs)
actually there is no real diffference, when setting it to "bad"

-landscape builds up terrible slow and way too late now when flying
    -fugly landscape glitches
-texture glitches on armor, clothes, vehicle windows and terrain
-All other games run just fine
(reminds me once again, that CE² wasnt made for MMOs)
-claimrods no longer have the "flashy lighting" (or is this a performance boost? x'D )
    -messed up hitboxes on mobs
-a tiny flashy global window that noone pays attention to anymore, because it is tiny and most text pops out of this message window all time.
(and I do know tha tI can set globals in a different window and even delete them)
-Action failed due to an internal error "message box", just out of nowhere while running around
-Now and then a teleporter dissapears from your TP list and you have to fly/run there again
-Cheating is used as always, for example I learned that you can fly like double speed with your shuttles, by additionaly pressing "Strafe" whiel flying. Everyone at rig was using it, to get there faster. Now I imagine this "internal-speed-hack" together with space pirates and people that dont know about it...
-I see Eomons migrating and how "shared loot" is getting abused through killstealing.

You missed. The target evaded. Seriously, for me the action failed (once again). Doing the standard things like hunting and mining, beeing surrounded by the things I mentioned above.

And no, I will not leave forever now, or do another pause for 5 months...because that wouldnt change anything in here.

Instead, I will continue to post about it now and then. (which will also change nothing)

Maybe Ill wait for taming with you guys, which might bring new, interesting stuff for my blog...for you to enjoy...or not...depends... xP

    p.s.
Why the f*ck does the tantillion have a sand (atrox) texture now ?
    it was a pink,naked,wobbly frog before...and I liked it.

    ROFL!
I hang out at Monria atm. It seems to be a bit abandoned ... I am allone here. Is this significant in any way? Dunno ... nothing to do here, no one to talk to, my penthouse sold back to Akoz' team for 6k PED ... bored ... yawn ... this game lost its charm. And it will never become the same we explored back in 2005. The spirit has gone. You and me are the grumpy old men ;-)

OMG! There were times when colonists like Cat started epic events like "Battle Royale"! Gone!

    Too sad.

  5. I put in a small effort into putting the facts to the new CEO in a direct fashion.

I simply grow tired this being my 8th year with Entropia seeing the same repeatitive unevolved backward routine occuring with MindArk. Will they ever evolve and move forward, making positive progress. I really do not know, but it is worth a shot to ask them to.

It will probably fall on deaf ears, however I may be wrong. Klas Moreau is another person, each person should be given an opportunity at the very least to achieve some form of positive impact.

McCormick I recently discovered there is this slider in settings that (might have been terrain quality) that if I bring down improves life tremendously. I went up to the Corinth TP and headed out to obs platform outside and adjusted it to a sensible place with decent frame rate that doesn't have much effect on terrain. While I could slide it up all the way this killed frame rate to nothing and had only a very minute difference on stuff that was too far away to matter.

I just went from a core2duo 2.4GHz to a core2quad 2.66GHz. This does seem to make a improvement to load times and rez speed when moving to new areas. Also seems better with more avatars around now than it used to be.

  7. Thats what I mentioned in my 1st post. Setting it to "bad" doesnt really make a difference in terms of quality, but can improve frames per second.

Then again, I usually set sliders to max. just be sure I get full quality.
I mean, thats what sliders are for. :p

I know what you mean, ideally I like to set things to max cause I like the pretty and care less about the frame rate. Certainly messing with that slider I couldn't see much improvement graphically from around the 60% mark when standing on the platform at corinth. It may make more diff it I was somewhere with a longer view I guess or maybe if I was flying.... but it was actually kinda subjective too as to if it is "better" or not. I think "how well MA design an area" (eg half moon/corinth or Thule all new/good) has more to do with things looking nice or giving decent frame rates rather than the settings.

I did notice if you set the slider too low though the clouds (which are far off) vanish which is no good.

  9. Possibly time to review a new engine over :cry2: engine that we all :cry1: over with its :sad2:performance ?

Something like, hmmm, let see, won't cost the universe to licence ... check ... good performance ... check.
Supports x, y, z .... check ... sure it has its short comings too, but it is a good alternative.

The demo is free, here are other videos:

  10. I remember some guy at MindArk talking about possibilities of bringing "Project Entropia" to the (old) Xbox back then in 2004.

Even with GameBryo our universe would look fantastic in todays MMO market, as the engine is fully customizable. And there would not have been these huge remnants of the "FarCry scenario". -_-
Entropia was using GameBryo since 1999. 10 years.

Skyrim and FallOut 3 for example did really show what you can do with a modified GameBryo Engine.

    Whatever... ;p

OK so I got the following. Very nice and all I guess and nice to see what tech can do now. Yes CE2 is old now for sure and times move on. Ultimately though as MA keep proving, it isn't the engine, its the quality of what they design inside it. The new areas in Entropia are good/pretty and perform well. Rocktropia looks better overall than Calypso does. The Farcry look is nothing to with the engine and everything to do with that MA used the models that come bundled with it. Ultimately it comes down to the artists or programmers. We all know Gamebryo could have looked way better than MA made it look as demod by Bethesda or whatever they are called.

  12. Hey WIstrel that result is not bad at all.

I have only ran it on the old card I had in the system. Well it was the new card for a while, though returned it for a store credit due to it having virtually no increased performance in most games except SOE Landmark Beta.

For the $ 2200 AUD (~ $ 2,000 USD) it was not worth it for one game - ASUS AMD R9 295X2 8Gb Dual GPU
Anyway I got my store credit *smiles* and spent it straight away, so they were happy.

I am back to running the ASUS AMD R9 290X 4Gb single GPU that I had initially which handles 4k in all games that support it just fine.

I ran the demo for Valley 1.0 with 2 VMware workstation 10 virtual machines running in the background in as-a-service mode moments ago. I do not think they would impact the demo too much.

Attached is the results of valley 1.0.
It is with 64Gb (48Gb available due to the 2 VMs) and running off an SSD.
Extreme HD preset supports upto 1920x1080.
I could not get it to kick into 3840 x 2160 in custom either, not sure what the deal is there.
    UnigineValley10Benchmark.jpg

I am going to run the other main one now heaven 4.0, same deal as I can not shut those VMs down due to the tasks they run. Maybe this other one will allow for 4k resolution. brb

Ok I played aorund with the settings in the demo, no 4k resolution. I accidently set the tessellation of this one to extreme which pushed my video card a little harder than normal, so not quite an accurate result.
This demo is much more intensive too, many assets loaded, day and night cycles and WOOH! at the tesellation, it was kind of funny actually but damn some of the graphics were unreal.

I may run this one again in normal Extreme HD settings.
It also has 26 scenes vs the 18 scenes of the other one above.
    UgigineHeaven40BenchmarkMaxTessellation.jpg

Ok it seems tesellation does have an impact, especially on the min frames per second.
Same benchmark 17k frames processed 26 scenes, no tesellation like in the Valley 1.0 demo.
Score difference of roughly +430 points with tesellation disabled vs tesellation set to extreme.
    UgigineHeaven40BenchmarkTessellationDisabled.jpg

For the record I am lucky to average 50 fps in Entropia in most places, some higher when there are hardly any assets around to cater for, such as open spaces outside the centres.

Then you can't compare the quality of graphics in Entropia to these demos.
If you were to, EU = 3 to 4 and that is being generous, with the demo as a guide at 10.
