Unless YREntertainment is Dutch, or unless they are actually "HOT YR Entertainment" they don't have much of a web presence. As Butch said to Sundance, "Who are those guys?"
Very good move by Next Island. Doesn't matter if the production comapny is new or not heard of before as long as they do a good job with high production values there's no reason why that show wouldn't do better than the existing ones on the market. Good luck NI
Well, yeah George. It is quite possible for a budding upstart to pull off a coup. That being said, I'd expect some kind of web page in place before a press release, especially when the press release includes internet entertainment and access as a major part of the project. It just makes it hard to create or manage expectations with no data to go on. I hope they pull it off and help grow NI's own unique customer base.
Might be because I'm not American, but where again are they going to show this? In game? If not in game, somewhere were everyone interested are able to watch it. And I agree George. It might be a sucess, and if it's good for NI then fine. I just get a creeping SL feeling.
If done well and actually released on network television, this would likely be the biggest boost to the ingame population EVER. People can be curious about crazy priced items in a virtual world, but following a tv show will flood the planets. I see it as potentially amazing for this game, but am not holding my breath until it happens. I have doubts that it will make much of an impact if it remains on an internet tv station. narfi
it's a two sided story for me...lots of new people but are those people the kind we want(drama loving robots)?
With this announced all the articles about Zac Posen and Next Island make sense now. FT.com / Style - Fashion expands into the virtual market
True, it could be a good thing for the corporate economics, but I just don't see it fitting in with the NI storyline at all. It kind of fits in with another planet's story though.... And it looks like YR is Y&R Brands. http://www.yr.com/content/who-we-are.html
Ok let me calm down I need a moment…..(several mins have passed) Ok let me really calm down (hrs have passed) (clears throat) Ok well besides for the simple fact this is probably the most horrible idea I have ever heard of, it won’t work unless this air’s mainstream on T.V. versus the web. This is going to make us the laughing stock of the MMO market. This will drive serious gamers away and cause a huge droves of people to come to our game to just insult it. That’s the negative side I can think of. The positive side is it might hit mainstream T.V. and will still be the laughing stock of the MMO world just it will up our numbers a tad bit with more people for a small period of time say 6 weeks more or less. Excuse me while I go wash my eyes with battery acid to make the pain go way.
Congrats! You found the hidden Keegan! Looks like most of their experience is in commercials and advertising. ...is anyone else having sluggish page loads from that Y&R site?
If you read the announcement again. Some interesting aspects: - Episodes premiere on YRVTN (the official Next Island TV network and first to offer premium real world and virtual world content) - Episodes are then re-aired in the real world using existing distribution platforms - Production is scheduled to commence in March 2011 and episodes will be broadcast weekly throughout production - use a virtual camera to create a casting tape YRVTN will be a NI tv network. So it's very likely they'll be producing other different shows... Also looks as if after showing on the internet the programmes are likely to be aired on convential tv networks. This avatarette programme is pretty close to be production (March) and airing. The virtual webcam thingy pretty much confirms what i suspected we are likely to have video chat in game. We've had voice chat recently and video is a natural progression. Furthermore apart from virtual webcam probably also get real world webcam in game (this could be after the virtual webcam? or maybe launched at same time dunno) Some really interesting developments.
It will be interesting to see what form this YRVTN takes. I suspect we're gonna see something in-game on ad screens or internet streaming rather than syndicated broadcast or cable.
Right, so remember that whole story in NI:O about the scientists and a special island and finding a way to travel thru time and all that? This press release sounds a giant flushing sound in my head for the story.
OP, you got a link for that reference? Google is coming up blank except for your post. EDIT: Nevermind, I found it: http://www.nextisland.com/media/ I can see the first episode now. "Ms Avatarette, allow me to present Mr Knu***es. Knu***es, this is Ms Avatarette." ...and you thought Marco was pissed when Knu***es was humping his leg! LOL (Names obscured to protect the... well... just 'cuz.)
Yes, will be interesting when avatars like BooBgirl Juicy WeT joins the program ... or other avatars with other obscure names like .... Viagrafalls meeting TheNun ... real family program
I understand how it could bring people into EP, however not all propaganda is good propaganda, just look at what a live series did to Ozzy Osbourne who's carreer was actually on the way back when they released the series, darn I used to be one of his fans. Used to be. I hope it works, personally, it is not my major concern playing Next Island. :) I just love that darn place because it brings back childhood memories. (excluding the boars and the screeching monkeys, of course)
OK.... I'm seriously expecting to see the following in the near future: 1) Dancing with Avatars; 2) Dancing on ice with avatars; 3) Celebrity dancing on ice with avatars; 4) I'm an Uber Avatar, get me out of here! 5) Avatar big brother! ( that would be Neverdie...) 6) What not to wear, Avatar edition; 7) Dr. Phil in Cyberspace; 8) Oprah; 9) Cooking with Avatars; 10) The Kardasians well... it would be alright if they provide some of those airplaine paper bags to vomit in.
