Apparently, great gameplay trumps slick graphics when it comes to games.

by far id rather have gameplay then the newest engine. graphics are nice but after a while you stop looking at them. gameplay is always there.

  3. Thanks for sharing Admin,

Free-2-play games do not get into this list so it is good that Unturned got a mention :)

One must look at the steam player/game use statics to keep informed >

    Today's stats: Position 4. Unturned - Current Players: 56,454 / Peak Today: 63,090
Kudos to the developer for efforts made on Unturned so far. Something to keep an eye on.

The ones who get the spotlight are those with a dollar value attached to them on steam; These mostly being good recent releases or those which are reviewed well by others as having good gameplay elements.

eg. Planet Explorers now in first due to it being 'on sale', Divinity Original Sin, Dayz, The Forest, RUST, Space Engineers which most fit into the survival category except D.O.S being a return of a true cRPG and space engineers being a well thought out space based sandbox building/etc style game.

There are a few others worth a mention too, though they are relatively new and it is too early to determine how well they will continue to sell.

Point being, I do hope this young developer of Unturned at some point gets rewarded for his efforts and puts at least a small price tag on his work later down the track, maybe to fund his further education in game development.

Aye agreed, eye-candy is nice upto a point, after that point it has little to no meaning or impact on the game's gameplay value. Mostly devs use eye candy to mask a game's lacking elements. ie. Smoke & Mirrors.

I downloaded 'The Forest' last night another early access survival game in development as my next adventure to undertake. They have kept to making regular progress thus far, including their most recent update Patch 0.04.

Not to mention the developer has a sense of humor too, in patch 0.04 - More variation to female cannibal models, added procedural breasts size system.

Also the developer has a commitment to rough time of next release with a count down timer ;)
