Even though I do not play as much as I used to in the past, I am proud to be 8 years old today. With the risk of sounding like an old man I want to reflect on my 8 years in this game (are they calling it a game already?) Anyway, I started this game on December 20th 2004, right after the $ 26.000 sale of Treasure Island was all over the news. After downloading the game (a bit smaller then it is now) I fired it up and got to make my avatar. Took a while to do that and make me look pretty and then I started the game. I ended up in a potato bag suit in Ithaca. The reason I ended up there and not in Port Atlantis, I found out later on, is the fact that with me a lot of other people saw the news about Treasure Island and were trying the game, overpopulating the PA server. Being at Ithaca had some disadvantages, one being there were not many people around and I was not able to get much help. "Why didn't you just go to PA then ?" you might ask. Well we are talking pre vehicle times here and you had to WALK to every teleporter. It took me week just to get of that f*cking island Ithaca is on, because of all the Trox that were all around it in that day. Anyway, I started to learn the controls and the overall feel of the game (was not yet called a game back then), met some people and started to slowly explore the planet. I also came to the conclusion that sweating for my money was just not worth it (even though sweat was 13 PED for 1000 sweat back then) so I deposited a little money. Started with 20 dollar I believe and bought me some nice stuff. Not really sure, but I believe I get some Rascal armor, which was maybe a bit overkill, I know now. After weeks I finally ended up in Port Atlantis and got to meet even more people. I also started to deposit a bit more every month, so I could play the game to its full extend a bit more. Mind you I'm not a hardcore gamer in the sense that I play 12 hours a day and think that skilling is the best thing in the world, far from that. I probably play dumb, which cost me money, but it is much more fun that way :) Somewhere along the line the game got boring to me, as it is now to be honest, and I had a bit of a break. That break turned out to be close to 2 years I think and when Club NEVERDIE was sold and all over the news I got back and soon fell in love with it again. Soon after I got back I got my first and only uber loot, a 6700 PED Foul, which gave me a little space to buy even nicer stuff. Got some ghost armor with 5B plates and an L/Murand Styler, which I all still own. With this I could hunt some bigger mobs and so I did. A lot more has happened during my time, like vehicles, new planets, VU10, a lot of new stuff, some bugs, some fixes of bug which caused new bugs and so on, missions, forums being started, forums being sold, planets being sold, planets being canceled, you name it and it has happened. But to keep this short I'll stop here. During the years I met a lot of nice people, some of which I even call friends, Nutrageti, Tass (I don't even know his real name), MS9, MistahE and talk to outside the game and 2 I even have visited, Peter and Lykke, at their home in Denmark. So that's it for now, hope you enjoyed my little reflection on 8 years of Project Entropia.
Gratz, looks like you've experienced most of EU. I joined in June 06 so didn't know any of the earlier things, but I do remember also getting stuck at outposts many times when they didn't have gun turrets. Worst one was when I was surrounded by so many Kingfishers that the scope was more red than it was black ;)
Congratulations on 8 years Hon ... I'm only 3-1/2 months behind you and it's definitely been a journey to say the least. The current EU State of the Universe 2013 looks interesting, but I guess if we continue to hang around we'll see what our continuing journey will look and feel like. Happy Holidays as well my dear! Great post! And tough luck on Ithica! heck that must have been a real shit to get out of and I don't think CRT were around then either! O_o. I remember the CND sale and they were dropping newbies all over the place. I certainly remember helping out a few at Atlas Haven.
Don't think CRT was around, but if they were I wouldn't know anyway, because it took me a few weeks to find the forums.
HS same birthday as me Razer. I started at Ithaca too....It became a favoured Trox hunting ground for all of us SFE lads....oh those were the days eh?
