University of California Riverside & Next Island Partnership Greetings Entropians! As originally mentioned in the preliminary announcement in June 2020, Next Island has partnered with the Social & Spatial Cognition Lab at the University of California Riverside to recruit Entropians for a paid research opportunity. In the finalized rendition of this experiment, all participants will receive their own unique shirt to be delivered by a University of California Riverside or Next Island official on Next Island for answering the first few questions of the experiment. Those that qualify and progress through the rest of the experiment (Approximately 30 Minutes) will be compensated with 50 PED in game. Specifically: We are seeking Entropians who play another game as much as Entropia Universe. If that describes you, click this link to see if you qualify for the research opportunity. If you qualify, you will be compensated 50 PED for approximately 30 minutes of your time. If you do not play any other games other than Entropia, simply input that you only play Entropia Universe in the ‘Other’ field and you will still receive a free shirt for your avatar! Selecting PUBG, or Overwatch and another option, which I cannot remember all led to a screen telling me I wasn't qualified. Clicking "None of the games listed" or "Other" lead to the same screen. MineCraft, however, gets you here (I assume other options lead to the same page): https://ucriverside.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3n0oXi4bBXwAlmd I'm not going to participate. 30 minutes of my time is worth far more than the 50 PED offered, and is even below the local minimum wage, but if you're strapped for PED, this might be right up your alley. I wonder if an official would travel to Calypso, or other planets to hand over the prize they promise, or whether they insist you have to head to NI.
I chose "Other" and entered "Second Life", which yields the following response: "Unfortunately you do not qualify for the main study. However, in appreciation of your time we will award you a free shirt for your Entropia Universe avatar. Please enter your full Entropia Universe avatar name in the text box below." I guess it doesn't matter what it is, any "other" disqualifies. They could just say so. Is the shirt sellable? 50 ped only...
I got bored, and just for shits and giggles went and took the thingy using the MindArk mindset (I figured I'd distract myself while half-assing the entire test, and approach it with utter contempt for whoever was on the receiving end). There's some questions on whether or not you prefer solving difficult problems, or if you lean towards easy solutions for problems. Not sure how that relates to EU in any way, shape, or form, because I have yet to encounter a single thing in EU that isn't just about repetition. I was shown a picture, and asked to provide my thoughts on it. It stated the test would detect when I typed enough, and move on when so, or when 2 minutes past, whichever was sooner. So I typed until the test moved me to the next picture. Same thing. I then was shown a ton of pictures from Minecraft and EU. Just Landscape after landscape. This entire thing lasted so long that I ended up just watching a podcast while letting the slideshow continue. The test then prompted me with more pictures, and asked whether or not these pictures were shown before or not. This entire part of the test easily consumed 10-15 minutes. Seeing I was distracted, I probably didn't do very well. It also seemed as if during the second part, some pictures were shown more than once, presumably to test whether or not your memory or the answers are consistent. Whoever needs to go through my answers, good fucking luck figuring that ones out. You're then prompted about how much time you spend playing EU/MineCraft (I assume any other answer yielding a success would replace MineCraft with that game instead), and how much time you spend discussing it with friends. This bit was proibably coded by someone at MindArk, because they ask questions that expect a number back, but the textbox allows for regular characters to be entered, complains when there's plain text entered (even if you start with a number), but somehow allowed character data to go through anyway. Now it's been a while since I made surveys and tests in college, but rule 1 is that if you only want numbers, you only allow numbers to be entered, or you can toss the test away. It also asks if you can guess what the purpose of the test is. Seeing it's just pictures of landscapes from MineCraft and EU, it's most likely trying to prove that EU has superior graphics. Thing is that despite inferior graphics, MineCraft is actually allowing for creativity, and is a commercial success, where EU is just shit. I finally left some feedback with my opinion about David Simmonds, and called it a day, only to then be told they have sufficient input collected. It seems that whoever set up this partnership managed to find a partner that is as competent as MindArk at whatever this was supposed to be. Well done, chaps!
When their Deeptoken Advisor Shaun Klein aka. Next Island Owner aka. Entropia Life aka...thinks it is a good idea to let you earn a virtual T-Shirt + 5$ of ingame money, by looking at minecraft screenshots...dragging the university of California into this gamble madness... Its one of these lazy little Mindark PR gags, to fill the gaps of missing communications. I admit, its embarassing...but there have been by far worse attempts of getting your reputation ruined, by "suddenly" beeing connected to Mindark. I contacted some of the "important" emails from the university, hoping for more info. Why, who and how they got dragged into this. Then again, I dont care. ^^
If I remember right... wasn't MS9 a psychology lecturer somewhere? So I'm guessing this is her doing. The announcement text sounds like she wrote it too. It's written in her style. The shirts somehow seem her thing too... I looked, I love how it asks if you play "other games" as much as Entropia but then restricts "other games" to about 10 online games. And there was me all set set to tell them about my Phoenix Wright addiction... XD Wistrel edit: I like how the official discussion thread has 4 posts only in it. Less attention than it even got here. "I see your official thread and I politely ignore it entirely"
