I made another test. It attenuated my hopes for working with it soon. The sexy models in VaM look really good in VR and in flat mode at the monitor. So I exported one to inspect it and estimate what I would get from a printed model:

Not really good. Probably I can smooth it a bit.
The alternate is still DAZ Studio. Especially regarding clothes. Since I bought CUR3D to make solid models from insane polygons, I should be able to repair such models. I will keep it in mind. Soo many abilities meanwhile!

Driver 0.6 yeh dk2 thing. I have options at my end. Can install early drivers for the DK2 like .6/7/8 but it's an arse to swap and need to use newer ones for any current compatibility. Chances are blender only ever supported the old driver and never upgraded. Quite a few programs like that out there alas. On my PC I have a mixture of old things that need various different driver versions to work. Occulus changed how they do things massively between versions in the early days. The old stuff used to treat VR as a separate screen for instance. Later it was overlays, then eventually just a whole new device category. Fair food though. It was after all an evolving cutting edge new bit of tech. We've come a long way

Ooops, Unreal Engine is for free? Really? LOL! That's pretty crazy. It seems I have to check it out.
Holy crap! They say, that they support Rhino-, SolidWorks- and 3DS Max-data. This would be a major improvement.

I had a bad day. I tested my PS4 Dualshock controller on Steam at my new PC. I wasn't really satisfied with it. Additional I neither could login to Elder Scrolls Online anymore nor to Elite Dangerous. Dunno what's wrong with all this things. Everybody doesn't have any proplems. Just "click, click, click" and everything works. Unfortunately not for me. And again I can't recharge my tablet. A really bad day. But at least the good news about Unreal Engine in the end.

    upload_2019-9-9_4-27-26.png
Well, download and insatllation took less time than expected. All in all the first impression is: it looks way more professional than all these other apps from hobbiests. I will check it. But it seems more promising than everything else I saw so far. Probably the reason for its success ...

... tablet is charged after unplug and plug several times. Probably still a good balance for this day.

Well, my controller works under Windows at Steam. But not good. At least it was for testing Elite Dangerous. But since I can't login anymore all this crap doesn't matter much.

I will watch some videos to learn more about Unreal Engine ;-)

Well, I watched a few videos:

All this looks way better and easier than everything I saw so far. Especially regarding the pricing because it's for free. Only when you earn more than $3000 you have to pay 5%. That's incredible cheap. I mean it's Epic Games!
    https://www.epicgames.com/site/de/home?lang=de
And they offer all this opportunities for free! As mentioned, it looks way more professional and better built than Unity3D and other programs that offer a really small spectrum of abilities and would cause costs of $50-$150 per month! Or SimLab with $300 for purchase the VR-license or rent it for $200 per year.

And at Unreal they have this VR-button as standard next to the play-button on top of the workspace:

Next days will show how good it works for me.

Odd... I've found Elite to be superb for Joystick support but have to admit I never tried with a controller (only sticks). I've heard controllers are not a bad option for control though...

Well, Unreal Engine is outstanding. I started Oculus and a new project in Unreal Editor. I could work in Unreal Editor using my Oculus Rift and its controllers. Nothing to install, no changes in settings and nothing to download additional. It just works just from start without doing anything else. That's what I want.

This may interest you Jamira. It's a high res print head. Could be nice for you human models

Haha yeah! Looks really cool but ...

    Or even
    upload_2019-9-19_2-51-47.png
But the print space is 160x160x180 mm only. Wich means in Real Reality: ~120x120x150 mm. Wich is pretty small compared to my Wanhao (350 Euro) ;-)
I'm aware that such machines exist and will be improved in future. Alas, it's beyond my monetary abilities. Especially since I left hardcore 3D-print behind and went to VR including an investment of approximately 3k Euro lately. I can design and print parts that I need. That's enough. Now let's move on to Virtual Worlds. It's a more exciting area for me meanwhile.

Another virtual reality: Amazon Prime Original "undone". Made as comic story with real actors. With an excellent leading actor Rosa Salazar:

Reminded me of "Shutter Island" with Leonardo DiCaprio.
This could be the plot for an interesting new game ...

Yeh I had a similar reaction when looking at these printers James has. "Wow so much!". Well, this is the benefit of being a youtuber I guess. The income funds the tool budget (along with all other budgets... like food). Interesting to see the Prime show. She was great in Alita. I loved that film so much, I went 3 times.

Fair enough if VR is now your thing. I've got a bit distracted lately by learning about linkages. Each to their own.

It's been a while since I did anything with them, but at the time I still worked for Unity, Unreal primarily was intended for FPS games. It was quite easy to use (partially due to built-in non-code solutions like Blueprint), but it would take time to learn how to master it, and if you wanted to use it for non-NPS stuff, you'd quickly run into a number of limitations of the engine. I never educated myself in the details, but I imagine it's not unlike trying to create an MMO in CryEgnine. Not something one ought to try and attempt unless one has very skilled coders. I could point you in the direction of a company who tried 10 years ago, but that doesn't have these skilled folks, and as a result, has been unable to deliver anything properly satisfying for 10 years, and counting.

Sure it'll take time to figure it out. But I don't want much. Just a movable actor and some interactivity. That's all. Shouldn't be that big deal. I don't want to make games. Currently I mainly hang out at Elder Scrolls Online to push my fourth character to champion level. May I introduce Catherine de Blanchefort, a Breton, level 47 of 50:

Would be really great to walk through Tamriel in VR! They should make a "special VR edition" just for fun. I mean they did it with Skyrim already and that was breathtaking ...

Virtuaverse is using Unreal engine incidentally... and they are really chatty/friendly. Just saying ;)

The answer is pretty easy. You are the first one who knows best that there are a few small differeces between a 1:1 scaled aluminium hull and a real flying airplain. Such minor details like engins, steering, radar, radio, lights, prototypes and test rows. Not to speak about the permission by Luftfahrt-Bundesamt to fly for the final device ;-)
Actually we are only a few people and two students now and than with a raw concept. Believe me, IF we ever get the chance to bring her into air, we will do it. At the moment it's just a theme that fits perfect to this thread, because parallel to detail works at the frame and the hull we want to make a VR-presentation.

Yes.... The structure is less than half of a completed project. Compromises would likely need to be made for more modern engines, though there are some good options and cowlings could still look original if done properly.
Yes.... More design work to make something work instead of a static model

But the reward........ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! to bring a do-x to life would be the achievement of a lifetime for every person in your group

"homebuilt' and 'experimental' are terms used for non commercial aircraft, and if the paperwork is done can be legally flown in many countries around the world. Of course I am more familiar with the process here in the US as I expect to be going through it with my son in the coming years, but in Germany, perhaps you could start here,

Well, we start with a try to make a VR-version. Parallel and after this we will focus on the static dummy. This one alone would be breathtaking. Propably we can make her swim with low effort. Everything else is a dream. Additional there are tricky things regarding the name "Dornier". Daimler Benz owns the former Dornier Werke meanwhile and one son founded the new Dornier whatever GmbH wich owns the rights of the flying boat you showed in the video and runs further developments. At least Daimler Benz or Lufthansa are potential partners. With money, knowledge and influence. Step by step we will see what's possible.

Will I see you at July 29th in Friedrichshafen? LOL!

Soooo ... the DO-X project is running. The leader of our group will meet members of the Dornier family at December 5th in Friedrichshafen, the 50th day of death of Claude Dornier. We both made an A4 landscape photo-book with ideas and pictures as a handout for this day. This was my main work during last two weeks. It's always crazy to see the astonishment when people see the difference between a screenshot and a rendered picture (7500x5000 pix) first time ;-) But that's all flat and only printed on paper. No chance to dive into it and find yourself standing in the middle of it ...

I stood already via VR in the intended hall for the DO-X within the Dornier Museum. We decided to use Unreal for the VR-presentation. Let's see what time will bring ...

are you able to share any of those renders? or have to wait till after the event?
