> I've just started watching this video series. I'm finding his commentary/reactions rather fun. I'm actually quite impressed with the action/response tutorial for movement and chat at the start, it is actually pretty good stuff. (only change I would make is to inform the player at the end that ALL* controls can be redefined with a "ask in chat" or "look online" for details style instruction) Reason being is that I think bad controls can kill an MMO for a player from the start so the faster you make them aware it is all customisable the better. Pretty good tutorial find. This is almost exactly how I remember it, except I purposely avoided the introductory tutorials for movement, chat, etc, and found the exit doors that takes you to the starting area. Then I found the tp by luck and went to PA.
So did I, well not months but a good five hours or more - I was almost getting sick of the sight of snow, then I asked on the open chat " Where is the teleport to Port Atlantis " , or something like that, and finally someone told me to just keep to the main valley until you get to the end of it and click on an NPC which was the teleport.
I climbed over many ridges :) Then I realised that what at first looked like the highest and furthest ones were just a backdrop :p
The only issue I had was with the highest mountain. I couldn't climb it. I think it was floating actually
true but to be fair they didn't expect anyone to go there. They TOTALLY should have made something of it though. I ruled the world I would have had an NPC talk of a friend who went into the mountains who went missing. The NPC would give last coordinates and then the challenge would be to get there without falling off. I'd make it no fly zone too! ;) I'd put another NPC in somewhere in the valley who is the old man of the mountains and he can tell you where the entry point to start from is and describe the route. Would be tempting to put a mob or two along the way also... but that might be too mean. Sigh... the mission engine could have been SO good.... and it really wasn't!
If they didn't then that's bad planning imho. I mean, there's nothing at the starting point outside the building you initially come out of that tells you a) what approximate direction the teleport is in and b) that it's an NPC. I was looking, as I'm sure most new players would have been, for a platform of some kind you step on to. Anyway, in my exploration there - I actually went up and down both sides of the valley zigzag fashion just to see if there was anything interesting, I noticed a few tiny mobs called Chomper Puny and managed to geta few with the handgun you're given, so at least that eased the monotony of snowy rocks a bit ;)
