I decided to give it a chance! And I also decided to let you know my honest opinion afterwards, one way or another thanks Lemmy's bodyguards it's Friday!
Well... I went to RT immediately after launch, gathered all TPs, shot every kind of mob I was able to, so my opinion should have a solid base. I don't like it. Whole RT looks and feels like a bad video game adaptation of a horrible B-movie. But... I didn't expect anything else. Also I didn't expect any new things but mob names and animations because as far as I understand all planets will just be created with MA's 'level editor' using the mechanics established in MA's game. I think it's a little unfortunate to mix different settings because in the end you will have no setting at all. When I play a Sci-Fi "Colonists" MMOG I don't want to see Hendrix Dragon globals or Rock'n'Roll Axes on auction. It's just another piece of the puzzle that shows a poor picture of what could be a great game.
In every other P2P mmo out there you get Gameplay and living breading worlds, that is something that does not exists in EU. I dont count Pick a weapon an press the button as gameplay. The Social aspect, you get just as much if not more and better in every other P2P mmo too. As it seems, many millions of MMO-players over the world rather pay an monthly fee for there favourite MMO instead of coming to this crappy game. People dont`t care that you can take out some cash when you stop to play EU, it`s not the reason why people play MMO. It`s just some off the EU-community that seems to think that this is something that would make 100:s of thousands of people to play EU.
And for those who did not yet had a look on the front page, I made a news article about my own first experience with ROCKTropia http://www.entropiaplanets.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1398 And now ...
I'm still waiting to see some creativity and well thought out things. My expectations were not high (knowing that Neverdie is not a big fan of creativity or originality), but unfortunately even those were not met. We'll see what the future brings, but so far I don't see anything that would bring in new players to their world, or any reason why players would choose Rocktropia over Planet Calypso. This 3d myspace or whatever they have in their mind will never ever ever work, unless they really pull some revolutionary magic tricks out of their sleeves. And I just don't see that happening!
rocktropia is actually pretty cool. yes, it was created by neverdie studios, oops sorry, i mean NEVERDIE studios, and its got some silly stuff like video vixens and dragons named after the self proclaimed most famous avatar of all time, etc, etc. but the Lemmy's Castle area is honestly sorta breathtaking. as an old rock band guy college radio dj and Motorhead fan, its the most fun i've had in Entropia. bumbling around the Castle killing security guards and Lemmy Dragons surrounded by gorgeous fire pits and woot flying mobs that actually have HP and function is WAY more than i ever expected. meeting Lemmy's son the other night as he watched Lhava and I kill some of their dragons was cool. Lhava added him to her FL and wants to take him hunting. 40 ped up and 40 ped back aint bad, when you stay for a week. i actually thought it was going to be 100 up and 100 down. and yes, atm there's very little % markup to be found up there, but that will change over time, i'm sure. anyway, i'm happy to see more content being provided through planet parterships. the competition between FPC and NEVERDIE Studios is going to be good for players. more areas means less lag. more entities working to provide gaming for us means competition. add Creative Kingdom to the mix, soon, and it proves to become real fun around here. for sure Planet Cyrene looks to be a very serious gaming planet. i have high hopes for that one that don't include scantly clad bitch slapping badly named leather goddess of phoebos rip offs.
Same shit different continent. I think whoever said it's like a video game adaption of a cheesey B movie hit it on the head. I was hoping for something ACTUALLY unique and different, not just the same old shit slightly tweaked.
I was quite negative at first impression. Actually begining to like it more and more. Shame of the high travelling costs. No objection here. Makes kind a sense. But I would be more on Rock if fee s were lower
No hate here, I just can't find any reason to spend 80 Ped quite just yet. I think I'll wait a couple of VUs. :D
I travelled up to Rocktropia at the earliest opportunity and stayed for about three days. In common with others, I think it has been launched too soon. They should have waited until more systems were in place. As it is a music-themed planet then maybe the ability to buy/loot and play musical instruments, coupled with the chance to perform should have been in place. So its maybe not a massive thing but it gives everyone a distraction at least rather than just the chance to do the same old same old in a strange location. And who knows, maybe someone will find that they're able to entertain. I will no doubt go back but it will be in a long time when MA have had chance to implement new systems that actually make it different.
