  1. I was Born in Serpentine Village.... for some players, that's all you need to say for full understanding of NI. Most never knew the FUN history that follows NI.

I had a friend who played the game. He had called at a burgeoning cash economy on a beautiful planet. So one poker night, I downloaded the game and started to play.
Instantly upon entering i was slain by mountain boars, while my buddy was laughing over my shoulder. That drunken bastard kept saying run to this TP in the middle of a tar pool, but i never saw anything because it was invisible. So, I spent a few hours running mobs away from the tp, so when i respawned they might be far enough away, to make a mad dash for safety.... 3 hours later i was rescued, and it was explained that the rest of the game was not like this.... was a very kool player Great Dane Escape <great last name for the situation, heh>

as soon as i could, i returned to serpentine and would help bring new players into the game, i would aggro mobs and drown them, to clear the area, or get older players to kill the pesky ones.... At the time i was a non depo so i had plenty of time on my hands. I would get players that were brand new, and have to tell them to drive with the keys and steer with the mouse, and how to talk. I ran into some good friends that way, and even got my first 2 globals on mountain boars on rescues ;)

sometimes the bugs brought people together... sometimes they were just running gags like the floating river at enchanted... Most of the time they hurt the player base, or just drove them away. Simple thing to fix like the Tp's, either spawning under them, or an invisible TP.

the time original Time Travel Crystal BP was a tough mess to fix..... I will admit that NI had a tough choice on that 1.... In the fix they destroyed what little economy was there by changing the materials needed. I was sponsoring Soc hunts by buying the loots at MU, and banking clicks to try to get us all to Greece. We had 1 success, and decided to wait for a fix to run the other 20 or so clicks. when the "fix" came, the ingredients were changed, and the materials we banked were now @ tt value. That was very Expensive for many who were crafting crystals. Not too long ago NI went back and changed all of the older bp's to the new one. It changed 3 books of mine i had held on to.

There came a time when there was zero communication, and zero progress. The older players in Next Island Noobs had decided it was time to move on, that we could not sustain our society there, and that we could no longer in good faith tell the new players that NI was a good experience, and had a future. Uber Noobs was created. I became a miner of foma for a while, till Arkadia opened and I claimed residence there.
For the longest time I was offering free escape rides from NI, for any who felt they were trapped. Its not up to the players to pick up the slack for a planet, its a game for US to enjoy, that WE pay for. so in the end its OUR experience that counts.

NI still does not carry my seal of approval. there is still much to be fixed and to atone for. it still does not rank a "home" planet..... its just a vacation spot.... looks great, looks really great, but it was neglected for too long.

With the great fix on the website here, and the addition of a Planet Partner to the roles, things are looking better for NI, I hope it continues. I think what pissed most of us Natives off..... was the fact that the planet showed such promise, and was allowed to be neglected so badly. So lets hope this new age does well.

  4. I myself started on Calypso coming up on my first year in game and as of now moving between planets not sure where my new home will be. For a long time now I have been calling Next Island my home from the first day I came since it was more of what I was looking for out of this game. As of a few months ago I wasn't sure if I was going to call Next Island my home since I had a great time here, but it just didn't seem as if it was alive. I joked for a long time how it was 'my planet' since I would maybe run into 1 or 3 people a week. But as of the last three updates and the new owners, sorry Investors, I think Next Island is going to be going places and be put on the map as the best planet in game.

Nope! Most people on the beaches today don't know the Serpentine Village history... about the doom cave... Kitten and me in Greece in our underwear...

These are the stories we'll tell around the campfires when Next Island is crowded with new players!
