According to financial news site Bloomberg, Microsoft and former News Corp. President Peter Chernin have had talks to discuss the possibility of an Xbox Live television channel being added to the service.

According to unnamed sources "with knowledge of the proposal," Chernin would like to create a station featuring original programming and re-runs aimed at the demographic of young men who like games. The programming would be funded by a fee tacked onto Live's service. Perhaps interested gamers would pay an extra dollar or two a month for access to the private channel.

“Peter is talking to lots of people about lots of ideas in the digital space,” Allan Mayer, Chernin's publicist told Bloomberg. Microsoft has declined to comment. Microsoft has reportedly not responded to the proposal yet, and offered no comment on the deal.

Chernin is widely considered to be one of the most powerful media executives in the world, and has been credited with the success of Fox's cable operations. So the guy know programming... but will it work?

Chances are you are a member of the young male demographic who likes video games, so let me throw it to you: What kind of programming would you need to pay an extra couple bucks a month to watch a premium TV channel on Xbox Live?
