Hey there, Newlanders. Helen Venture here. What’s that you say? You’d like to learn about healing in Next Island? Well, even if you stumbled on this guide by accident I can promise you it’ll be well worth your time. I don’t want to scare you, but Next Island can be a dangerous place what with all the wild boar and papoo running around. I highly recommend that either you or a teammate know how to operate a Healing Kit as no one likes the headache that goes hand in hand with chronic reviving.
A Healing Kit is used to restore your health bar. It’s important to know that if your health bar is super low it’ll usually take a couple uses of the kit before you’re back to full health. You’ll need to be conscious of the level of your bar while you’re out on the hunt to make sure that you have time to heal before getting dealt a death blow.
There are several different types of Healing Kits. The Vivo T1 is found in Crystal Resort and the Herb Box in Ancient Greece. If you want to practice healing in both of these areas you’ll have to purchase the two kits separately, but luckily they look really stylish…so of course I had to have both!
Healing in Tropical
The first step to becoming a healer is to purchase a Healing Kit from your nearest Trader. You can find Traders in Carolines or underneath any of the Remnants, those white structures that the First Waivers put up before they disappeared.
By the way…that Trader is kinda hunky! Do you think you could talk him up for me while you’re over there? No need to blush…I guess I can do it later. Tap the Trader on the shoulder to get his attention and have him show you the Trade Terminal menu.
You’ll find that knocking people on the shoulder is a standard form of greeting in Next Island. It started because some people came out of the teleporters a little hard of hearing at first so it was the easiest way to get their attention…now it’s just part of our culture. A lot of people refer to it as the Next Islander Knock, or NIK.
Once the Trader has opened up his menu of wares you’ll want to select the Medical option and then choose the Vivo T1. Click the Buy button at the bottom right of the window to purchase your Healing Kit.
Look at how fancy it is! Like some present all wrapped up in glossy paper…It kind of makes you want to shake it like a three-year-old child at Christmas. I wouldn’t recommend it though…that’s how I broke my first one…I might be on number four by now…they roll really easily and there are a lot of hills in Next Island. There are also a few underground papoo bowling leagues…I don’t know anything about those…
If you want to know more information about your new toy you can click the tiny square icon with the I on it, for information, that’s located underneath the Vivo T1 title.
The I icon at the bottom left of this window will give you basic information. The magnifying glass icon will give you detailed information. That weird icon that looks like a page ripped out of a book will give you a description of the item. If you ever hope to win any of the Trader Trivia competitions you should know more about this stuff than your own mother because they are tough!
Once you’ve purchased a Vivo T1 you’ll have to learn to equip the item in order to use it. Go ahead and enter your Inventory by pressing I on the keyboard or by choosing the Inventory icon at the top right of the screen. Choose the Tools tab from the right of the screen, it resembles a wrench, and find the Vivo T1. Right click on the Vivo T1 and choose the Equip option.
When you’ve successfully equipped the item you can begin using it right away. However, the Healing Kit only turns on if you or your patient have a diminished health bar, so no showing off the toy for no reason. I also don’t recommend jumping off a cliff or having a papoo punch you in the face just so you can use it…both those things are more painful than you might expect. If no one has taken damage and you try and show the thing off a message will appear in your chat window, that’s the window at the bottom left of your Dashboard, that says “You are not wounded.” I really enjoy being told things I already know…really.
If you want to use the Vivo T1 on yourself than just right click the screen and pick the Use Tool option. If you want to heal a friend, you’re such a caring individual, than just give them the good ole’ Next Islander Knock and, as long as they’re not at full health, the machine will work automatically.
When you successfully use the Vivo T1 it’ll pop open and enclose you in a warm light, that smells like chocolate chip cookies, and you’ll see your health bar rise. You’ll need to use the device several times to get back to full strength. You should also know that there’s a delay between available uses of the kit which is represented by a small blue bar underneath the words Vivo T1 at the bottom right of the Dashboard. I think it takes the machine a little while to warm up its stash of cookies. The delay bar will empty itself when you use the Health Kit and then you just have to wait and watch it refill.
If you use the Health Kit repeatedly you’ll start to accumulate Skill Points. Since I started making use of these babies I’ve gotten Diagnosis, Dexterity, Intelligence, First Aid, and Anatomy points, but I’ve heard that these types are somewhat randomly given. You say you’ve never heard of a Skill Point? You Newlanders are so cute! Now crowd around and listen closely…Skill Points are a type of experience that you accumulate when using tools in Next Island. Upping your Skill Points level will make you a more skilled tool user. You can also take your Skill Points and bundle them into something called a Skill Chip which you can then sell…gotta love the PED.
I should also mention that if you use your kit a bunch it will eventually need to be repaired. You’ll be able to gauge whether or not it needs repair both by its effectiveness, it’ll begin to refill less and less of the health bar, and by the level of the Condition Bar, this is a tiny bar that’s red, yellow, and green and appears over the icon of the tool in your Inventory menu.
If you want to repair your item you’ll need to locate one of the Repair Men. They can be found underneath any of the Remnants, in Carolines, and even near the Teleporters. Give him a Next Islander Knock and then drag and drop the item that you wish to repair in the window that appears. If the price he’s asking suits you then just choose the green check mark to give him the go ahead. The repair fee will be automatically deducted from your PED card.
Healing in Ancient Greece
If you happen to be undergoing your healer training in Ancient Greece you should begin by locating a Trader. You can find a Trader in the Marketplace or in any of the Underworld locations. I gotta say…I’m all about ladies wearing what they’re most comfortable in, but her attire is a bit risque… I guess the Ancient Greeks are a little less prudish then me…hahaha, you’re blushing too! If you want me to get her phone number…I mean address for you I’ll do my best…if you’re into ladies.
Go ahead and choose the Medical option from the Trade Terminal menu that pops up. Click on the Herb Box and then choose the Buy button at the bottom right of the window.
If you want to know a bit more about the item before you purchase it then click the square icon with the I, for information, underneath the Herb Box title.
This window has a lot of useful information. The I icon will give you basic information, the magnifying glass will give you detailed information, and the page icon will give you an item description.
Okay, now that you’ve purchased the Herb Box it should appear in your Inventory. You’re going to equip the Herb Box in exactly the same way as you did the Vivo T1, but for all you Newlanders that were napping I’ll go over it again. Hit I on the keyboard or choose the Inventory icon in the upper right corner of the screen. Choose Tools, it resembles a wrench, and right click on your Herb Box and pick Equip from the menu that appears.
Alright Newlanders, we’re ready to roll our sleeves up and get healing. Just remember that the Herb Box, like the Vivo T1, can only be used if you or your patient has taken damage. If you try to trick the Herb Box you’ll hear a voice from the heavens saying “You are not wounded”…well really this will just appear in your chat window, that’s the one at the bottom left of the screen.
If you want to heal yourself, so selfish, then right click the screen and choose the Use Tool option from the menu that appears. If you’d like to heal a friend, you saint, then just make sure you have the tool properly equipped and give them a Next Islander Knock.
When you’ve successfully used the Herb Box it’ll open up and you can munch on some of the delicious herbs inside to regain a bit of health. The Herb Box also has a delay between uses that’s represented by a small blue bar underneath the words Herb Box in the bottom right of the Dashboard. The delay bar will empty itself out when you use the item and then slowly refill to show when it’s ready to be used again.
If you use the Herb Box often you’ll start to accumulate Skill Points. For all you Newlanders that were napping go back to the beginning of my guide to hear more about Skill Points.
If you use your kit often you’ll eventually need to take it in for repair. You can tell that it needs to be repaired if you try to use it and nothing really happens. I recommend, instead, that you keep an eye on the level of the Condition Bar, that’s the tiny bar that’s red, yellow, and green and appears over the icon of your item in the Inventory menu.
You can find a Repair Woman, I guess the Ancient Greeks knew that women make good mechanics, in the Marketplace and any of the Underworld locations. Give the Repair Woman a Next Islander Knock and then drag and drop the item you want to repair in the window that she opens. Hit the green check mark to start the repair process. A fee will automatically be sucked off of your PED card.
